GOP dealt blows in congressional races

Dems could gain from setbacks

WASHINGTON -- The news just keeps getting worse for Republicans in this year's campaigns for Congress.

When U.S. Rep. Tom Reynolds of New York announced Thursday that he was retiring, he became the 26th GOP lawmaker calling it quits, opening up chances for Democrats this November. Only seven seats are being given up by the Democrats, who see bright opportunities to fatten their majority in the House and Senate.

...

Things are not much better for the GOP on the Senate side, where Democrats feel confident of picking up retiring Republican John Warner's seat in Virginia and are campaigning for GOP seats being vacated in Colorado and New Mexico.

The Democrats' current Senate margin effectively is 51-49, including two independents who align themselves with the Democratic Party.

1. "Dems could gain"????
What manner of bullshit be this? Doesn't the Free Press know that everything is always good news for Republicans and bad news for Democrats? Just because 15% of Republican incumbents have thrown in the towel for 2008, that doesn't mean that Democrats are going to pick up any seats. In fact, with all the fresh faces the Republicans will have to run, and no money to run them with, why, it'll be another smashing success for the GOP! Is the Free Press fax machine broken? Aren't they getting the RNC's blast faxes that explain in meticulous detail how every situation means greater glory for Republicans everywhere in their mortal struggle against the evil that would decimate America?

2. The Rats are leaving the Ship
They don't want to be there when it sinks from their suicidal and insane gnawing at the substructure and foundations

5. But what an opportunity for the Democrats to rebuild --
not just the U.S. but credibility of their own party.
