Bush: Iraq War Worth It
Bush says Iraq war was worth it

Bush Says He Has No Doubts About War in Iraq Despite 'High Cost in Lives and Treasure'

President Bush says he has no doubts about launching the unpopular war in Iraq despite the "high cost in lives and treasure," arguing that retreat now would embolden Iran and provide al-Qaida with money for weapons of mass destruction to attack the United States.

Bush is to mark the fifth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq on Wednesday with a speech at the Pentagon. Excerpts of his address were released Tuesday night by the White House.

At least 3,990 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the war in 2003. It has cost taxpayers about $500 billion and estimates of the final tab run far higher. Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph E. Stiglizt and Harvard University public finance expert Linda Bilmes have estimated the eventual cost at $3 trillion when all the expenses, including long-term care for veterans, are calculated.

Democrats offered a different view from Bush's.

"On this grim milestone, it is worth remembering how we got into this situation, and thinking about how best we can get out," said Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich. "The tasks that remain in Iraq — to bring an end to sectarian conflict, to devise a way to share political power, and to create a functioning government that is capable of providing for the needs of the Iraqi people are tasks that only the Iraqis can complete."

In his remarks, Bush repeated his oft-stated determination to prosecute the war into the unforeseen future.

"The successes we are seeing in Iraq are undeniable, yet some in Washington still call for retreat," the president said. "War critics can no longer credibly argue that we are losing in Iraq, so now they argue the war costs too much. In recent months, we have heard exaggerated estimates of the costs of this war.

1. The al-Qaida Lie
As most of us here well know, al-Qaida wasn't in Iraq five years ago and to this day is not a major force there.
It is unbelievably shameless for this monster - bush - to try and wash this stain out by linking it to America's favorite bogeyman - al-Qaida.
We can debate all day about impeachment, but it is simply the ultimate indication of our failure as a democracy that this administration is allowed to continue their occupation of both Iraq and our White House.
We have to keep countering this lie whenever it is repeated.

2. Why are they not saying it now
Victory means exit strategy, and it’s important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is.”
–Governor George W. Bush (R-TX)
“Well, I just think it’s a bad idea. What’s going to happen is they’re going to be over there for 10, 15, maybe 20 years.”
–Joe Scarborough (R-FL)
“Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?”
–Sean Hannity, Fox News, 4/6/99
"This is President Clinton's war, and when he falls flat on his face, that's his problem."
-Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN)
“The role of the US military is not to be all things to all people. Bush does not support an open-ended commitment to keep our troops as peacekeepers in the Balkans,” said a spokesman. An advisor added, “Gore seems to have a vision of an indefinite US military deployment in the Balkans. He proved today that if he is elected, America’s military will continue to be overdeployed, harming morale & re-enlistment rates, weakening our military’s core mission.”

3. He is so out of touch he must be living on the moon.
He spews lies and continued sacrifice by the American people. Yet he has sacrificed NOTHING. It has and will cost his children and grandchildren very little. It will cost us dearly. The war has made billions for his cronies and friends, the haves and have mores. But the little guy, you and me, we will be paying the bill for the rest of our lives.

He spews lies and continued death all so he can look like a president.
