Anyone else having this problem? Being harassed by the RNC
In the last few months I have begun to receive RNC mailings asking me to renew my membership in the Republican party. I have NEVER been a member of the republican party. I called the RNC headquarters in DC to have my name removed. Two weeks later I received a Republican Party Caucus survey. I was ready to send it back and then I thought this might be one of their tricks to have people removed from voter roles if they didn't respond. Now since the mailing had my maiden name on it I wasn't too worried although it did have a voter registration number listed along with my purported RNC membership number. The number didn't map to my married name registration but I did find it a bit odd that they should have access to that info. I finally threw the Caucus in the trash. I'll be dammed if not two days later I received mail asking if "I had given up on the RNC" and how they noticed I hadn't renewed my membership and how they needed me now more than ever...blah, blah, blah. I called the RNC again today to have my name removed. The first little witch I spoke with hung up on me. The second putz I spoke with told me it would take EIGHT WEEKS TO HAVE IT REMOVED!!!!!!! I asked who did their database administration, MICKEY MOUSE!!!!!!! I can get a magazine subscription in less time! They must have some "heckuvajob, Brownie" crony doing their DB administration because it should take, being generous....very generous, no more than 48 hours to remove a file. I have a hard time believing that if I was JOINING the RNC that it would take them 8 weeks to get me entered in the DB. Proof that the RNC is more like a cult; easy to get into, near impossible to leave!!!!

My next step (since I'm sure I will still receive mail after 8 weeks) will be to start burning the mail and sending the ashes back to them.

5. Consider this aspect
Every piece of mail that you get from the RNC, costs them money, perhaps not much, but some. It also gives you a look into their talking points on whatever the issue of the day happens to be. There is also the aspect that it even in a tiny, tiny way subsidizes the post office and thereby your mail carrier's job. You can simply shred your address then put it into the recycle bin. It has cost you nothing and cost them something. I think this is a win for our side.

I may even send them $5.00 to get on the mailing list and look forward to them sending me all sorts of junk mail that does them no good.

6. When you ask them to have their name removed
It only legitmizes your contact information--which they sell to someone else.

Demand to see proof of your registration.. get it corrected NOW.. You might be getting "caged", and when you show up in November, you might be refused..

8. Me too. My last one was a beg to "not leave"

My only conclusion is that somebody's playing a joke on me. At least I hope it's that simple.:scared:

The caging thing did cross my mind a few times though.

9. I just checked my registration. Still Democratic, no change for me.
I got as much mail from the RNC as you did. You should be fine, but check your registration at your SOS's office anyhow.

The first one I got I wrote all over the envelope George Bush is a LIAR!!!!... Go Obama, Go Edwards, Go Hillary, Go Kucinich, Go Biden (it was a while ago)... Rudynineleven Guliani, Flip Flopper Mitt, Grand Inquisitor Huckabee.

I sent back their letter to me marked where they misspelled Democratic as Democrat, and gave them an "F" not knowing the difference between an adjective and a noun.

I'm just throwing the rest of this shit in the trash.

11. Where's your Yippie spirit?
According to Abbie Hoffman, in "Steal This Book," we should all be running to sign up for Republican mailers. His idea big idea was to take a brick and duct tape it to the paid-postage cards.

The small idea, though, is still valid and subversive: every minute you spend negotiating on the phone with an RNC volunteer, and every mailing you receive, and every pre-postage response you return with incoherent rambling on it, is more money out of the RNC's pocket.

If you cost them three dollars a year, it's nothing. But if we ALL cost them three dollars a year...
