Lt. Col. Bruce Crandall's heroics in Vietnam were immortalized in a movie and a critically acclaimed book.

More than 40 years after Crandall repeatedly risked his life to rescue American soldiers fighting one of the toughest battles of the Vietnam War, the U.S. military officially recognized his heroism Monday, when he was awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest award for military valor.

"For the soldiers rescued, for the men who came home, for the children they had and the lives they made, America is in debt to Bruce Crandall," President Bush said during the awards ceremony. "It's a debt our nation can never really fully repay."

Col Crandall thank you for your acts of heroism that you showed in your acts of bravery. Wondering what the"commander and thief is thinking" in the photo?

4. It seems so long ago to me and strange that we will soon be gone.
When I was born WWII had been over for 9 months and in my mind it happened a long time ago now our war happened a long time ago too. We will never learn the lessons of not fighting a needless war I think. Some people (mostly chicken hawks) will always push us to fight in another one with their words of glory and honor and freedom. Well freedom does not come from war and there is no glory and honor in it for us.

5. 3.5 million gooks exterminated - we're heroes
hey, what a PR machine... he was expecially efficient, give him a medal.

No, he really was for *our* side in this extermination of innocents.

.
.
but then who are those innocent?

Are they not us?

And are we not the perpetrators too?

What shall we do but kill our sisters and brothers to celibrate medals and republican graveyards.

8. a real hero would have stopped the war
and run the lying prowar liars of the time into jail, where they belonged...vietnam lost millions of people thanks to western imperialist designs. the only heroes were the anti war resistance
(yes Crandall was a hero, but 58000 americans died for nothing, and we sure never learned any lessons from 'Nam - which is exactly the way certain pro war types want it: now they (cnn) dare use Crandall to promote their silly war)
