Snowfall inches toward record

The Daily Journal area is inching closer to a modern record for snow depth in a single season.

The 1.2 inches of snow that fell overnight and was recorded by the Kankakee Metro Wastewater Treatment Utility brings us to 45 inches of snow this winter -- just shy of the record 45. 2 inches recorded in 1981-82. The facility has tracked snowfall totals since 1948.

But there's hope for a record yet.

A chance of snow is forecast throughout the day today. Saturday, partly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 37 degrees are forecast. On Sunday, spring will be in the air when temperatures are expected to reach 50.

The next chance of snow? Tuesday.
