This is the text of an email for weather updates I receive regularly from KCRG 9 and I thought I'd pass it on to give you all a sense of the scope of the storm damage we experienced in this state over the weekend. Since it was an e-mail, I am posting more than 4 paragraphs because it is not on any public site I can refer you to.
Power Update from KCRG-TV9
Here is the latest power outages update into the KCRG-TV9 Newsroom:
ALLIANT ENERGY, who originally reported that more than 100,000 customers lost power this weekend, now says that number is down to about 66,000.
Right now, there are far more than 2,000 damaged poles and more than 1,000 miles of downed lines.
Some customers may get their power back in a day or two... but for many, it could be a week or more.
MIDAMERICAN ENERGY reports 35,000 of its customers are still in the dark. That's down from 75,000 on Sunday. We have not been given a timeline for repair.
We spoke with representatives with the EAST CENTRAL IOWA RURAL ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE this morning.
It's restored power to 6,000 of it's 8300 customers who went dark this weekend. It could still be a few days before power is fully restored.
LINN COUNTY REC is reporting that around 1,000 customers are without power. But there is good news.
It could be restored as early as today.
And finally, about 90 percent of Butler County REC customers are without power. This translates to about 4500 homes. There is such severe damage to transmission lines that representatives can't say when power might be restored.
All of these companies told me crews from other companies, even those from out of state, are heading to Iowa to help out.
Company officials want me to remind customers that this winter storm did severe damage... the worst they've ever seen and they're doing their best to get the power fully restored.
