DNC says RNC doing research to see how far attacks on women and African Americans can go.
A press release was sent out showing that the RNC is doing research on how far to go in attacking these groups. This is just terrible.

"The Republican National
Committee has commissioned polling and focus groups to determine the
boundaries of attacking a minority or female candidate," a new survey
directed at college students has come to light that shows an attempt to
finesse language to convey sexist and racist stereotypes.
In the survey students are asked to rate how strongly they agree or disagree with a series of sexist and racist statements like, "when women lose to men in a fair competition, they typically complain about being discriminated against," and "I feel threatened when interacting with Black people."

Dean allied with the DNC Black Caucus Chair Virgie Rollins, DNC
Women's Caucus Chair Mame Reiley, and College Democrats of America
President Lauren Wolfe and issued the following joint statement:

"It is disgraceful that one of America's two major political parties would spend money on finding ways to push the envelope in its attacks on African American and female candidates. It is also cynical that college students, the future of America, would be targeted in that effort. This episode is a sad reminder that the Republican Party's history of divisiveness and intolerance toward minorities and women is alive and well.

John McCain owes it to the American people to denounce the RNC's efforts, and as the presumptive nominee of his party, to put an end to it."

2. This is a GREAT idea!!
I hope they focus test each and every one of them. Actually, screw the focus test. Put them in a national McCain blather speech and have Frank Luntz tell us what "works and what doesn't".

Karma is a helluva thing...

10. I agree....it's a great idea. Calling out their dirty tricks.
It won't get mentioned on the TV, but we can spread it around the nets.

4. Let 'em push the envelope and see "how far" they'll go
Judging from the current mood of the American electorate, I'd say not very far. People are sick and tired of this crap and I hope to God it bites then in their big white asses!!

6. Its a trick
The RNC knows it can't bring up race directly but if race is brought up it will hurt Obama. So they are bringing up race by saying, "We can't criticize Obama because he's black." The idea that only one side is privileged and can't be attacked will provoke a sense of unfairness among the white GOP. Racist anger will result.

From there, the GOP is hoping Obama will disagree and say he can be attacked. Then the GOP will unload the NYC septic system on him. If Obama complains, the GOP will say he promised not to play the race card but he is. (regardless of how racist the original accusations are. Its likely the GOP will try to pick something borderline racist to set this all off) They are hoping that at this point race will become an issue and Obama won't be able to avoid it. The GOP wants to be able to blame Obama for making race an issue and get themselves off the hook.

The GOP is already well into this strategy. All the right wing talk show host are pushing the "We can't criticize Obama" line. The RNC is acting like the tests of racial appropriateness are some inside operation. But the RNC is putting out press releases and talking points about it all over. That shows the RNC is more interested in portraying themselves as victims of reverse racism than learning their manners. Right wingers are also fighting the idea that Obama shouldn't be called Barack HusseinObama. They say that's Obama's name and not letting them even call Obama by his real name is political correctness gone berserk.

I can't figure out a great strategy for Obama to fight this. If Obama points out that even the statement "We can't criticize blacks" is itself racist then Obama will be accused of bringing race into the election. Faux outrage will be expressed like, "We can't even say that we can't talk about race because Obama is so off limits." This is a tough one and the right wing fights dirty and sneaky.
