New website created to debunk 'christian' Right pseudoscience and manipulation of research data
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 10:48 AM by ck4829
In an effort to curb conservative charlatans from usurping science for their dastardly ways, Truth Wins Out has established a new website, Respect My Research. The site comes after Focus on The Family leader James Dobson misrepresented scientific findings in his Time Magazine-published preaching against Mary Cheney's lesbianic pregnancy. Researchers cited by Dobson have since come out against his homophobic manipulations.

TWO spells out their mission:

Right wing promoters of pseudoscience are routinely offered a national platform to mislead the American people and serially misrepresent social and medical science.

If your research has been twisted or misused by Dobson or others, please report these infractions. Only by shining a light on these lies, can we a change this deplorable behavior. Together, we can help put an end to the dishonest practice of hijacking science in support of extremism.

Sounds like quite a time. Dobson and his friends, we're sure, will just say TWO's using science for their "extremism". They'll base their argument, of course, on research from the 19th century and recommend massive reprogramming a la Ted Haggard.

3. Excellent!
As a research psychologist myself, I am shocked at these evil distortions, and congratulate the researchers for speaking out. I can't believe that Dobson tried to use Carol Gilligan's work to justify his arguments!

I am reminded of the lines from Kipling's poem "If": "If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken/ Twisted by knaves to set a trap for fools". There comes a point where people should not bear it!

4. I hope they don't just hit back at the folks who twist the research
But also at the folks who publish the twisted rantings of the likes of Dobson. After all, it's to be expected that James Dobson will misuse, abuse, and otherwise twist things into a misshapen little pretzel. He has plenty of outlets to do so, and he uses them quite prodigiously.

But what in the world possessed Time magazine to give this mountebank a full page of its weekly over to Dobson to distort, mislead and propagandize? I hope TWO puts some pressure on Time to explain itself. Perhaps the magazine hasn't come so very far from the days when it had Whittaker Chambers on the payroll as it would like people to think.
