10 year old raped by Mom's boyfriend; has baby
11-year-old's baby OK
Had baby at 10; own mom skips
BY SHARON COOLIDGE | [email protected]

The infant daughter of an 11-year-old Lincoln Heights girl, who prosecutors say was raped by her mother's boyfriend, is doing well, an advocate for the infant told a magistrate Thursday.

The update by Candy Stemple, a ProKids advocate for the baby, came during a hearing in Hamilton County Dependency Court. "The baby is beautiful, much more alert," she said.

The 11-year-old girl has once-a-week visits with the baby supervised by the Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services.

Hamilton County prosecutors are seeking to permanently remove the infant from the girl's care on the premise her age - she's in sixth grade - makes it impossible to care for an infant.

The hearing Thursday was scheduled to discuss whether the 11-year-old girl's mother could visit her. She did not show up, prompting Magistrate Charles Milazzo to deny the 43-year-old woman visitation.

42. Yes, that's the usual story
When a very young girl has a baby, it's almost always by Mom's boyfriend. That was one of the more common stories among the street kids I worked with.

28. I know that the incidence of...
childhood abuse is extraordinarily high among the prison population.

The vast majority--were sexually, emotionally or physically abused--or suffered
from parental neglect.

I don't recall the exact statistics, but it was a very high number--80 percent or higher.

18. The sad truth is...
...that there is a very high rate of sexual abuse in the foster care system.

I know that there are many good people who are foster parents, and I don't quite
understand the dynamics of why this happens.

However, it is true. Children in the foster care system are sexually abused at
even higher rates than children who are not in the system. That's saying a lot,
since sexual abuse happens to 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 7 boys--before the age of 18.

Fact is, childhood sexual abuse is a deplorable epidemic in this country, and no one
wants to deal with it.

The satellite trucks roll out when a child is abducted by a stranger, but that type of
sexual abuse is so rare. Hundreds of children in each town and city in this country--will
be sexually abused tonight in their own beds.

No satellite trucks and no news media for these children. No one wants to talk about it.

33. If anyone should get an abortion, it's a pregnant pre-teen.
But it's possible that she didn't even know she was pregnant until late. Who knows how many periods she'd had before getting pregnant. Maybe none. As creepy as the thought, he may have been raping her regularly for years, and impregnanted her very first egg.

57. A child that age is the very definition of a high-risk pregnancy--very very risky for the mother
As a minor child she cannot consent to sex or a whole host of other things. I am not sure something as dangerous as pregnancy falls into the category of "choice" for a ten year old.

If it were known she was pregnant early on, a medical abortion would have been far less dangerous to her health than staying pregnant and giving birth. Until the nutjobs took over the argument about abortion and contraception, every religious group that disapproved of abortion had an exeption for the life and health of the mother. Now even that is uncertain.

11. No word on how the 11-year old is doing in the article
Giving birth at that age is extremely dangerous, not to mention the life-long psychological damage done to any woman of any age forced to relinquish her newborn.

The mother, the rapist and the morons who allowed this pregnancy to go to term all need to be shot. Preferably in the gut, since that's a slow death.

52. Who said she DID have a say?
Someone should have been appointed to make medical decisions for her in loco parentis. Even a very bright 10 year old is not able to understand the ramifications of gestation and birth (and parenting or relinquishment) on her future health.

There is no information indicating that the chid knew she was pregnant or that she wanted to carry to term.

12. This article says that...
...while police investigated who molested this little girl--her mother was banned
from having any adult males in her household.

She violated that court order by having the man who impregnated her daughter--in her home.

So typical. So many children who are molested, are not only the victims of their molesters--they
are victims of selfish, dysfunctional mothers who behave in reckless ways that leave their children
so vulnerable to molesters.

Molesters look for mothers like this.

It's just so sad.

No one protected that little girl, and I hope she can heal and find peace someday--after the horrible
abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother and that abuser.

25. She might have been too far along to abort safely
because 11 year olds do a lot of magical thinking, that it will all go away if they just ignore it and never talk about it. I doubt she was getting much attention from her boyfriend obsessed mother.

I wonder how much additional damage they'll do if they don't find a setting that gives her contact with the baby.

26. I would agree...
Childbirth is very physically strenuous and dangerous.

Furthermore, it is very emotional and it can be traumatic--even to an adult woman
who has her husband and other supportive friends/family nearby.

This child had nothing---and I can't even imagine going through childbirth so young, and
so emotionally ill-equipped to deal with something like that.

It's just heartbreaking.

22. NOT that my wife is in any way condoning the events that happen to the eleven year old
BUT she feels for this 11 year old girl who is the victim in everything.

By the jerk who raped her but then the county is in a sense demeaning this girl. Instead of stipping this child's baby from her and perhaps doing mental damage why not make sure this girl does know that yes, the child is her and yes, at the moment you are too young to care for the child but this doesn't mean you will be a bad parent in the future.

To my wife the idea of "remove the infant from the girl's care on the premise her age". Seems to send such a negative message to the 11 year old that might cause her to go down a darker path in the future.

I had a student who had a child when she was 12. She was in 9th grade when I was her teacher and the child was a couple of years old. She was pregnant by a 15 year old boy and both families were involved in the situation with the girl and her baby continuing to live at home and the 15 year old boy being expected by his family to do whatever he could to help financially and with childcare responsibilities.

53. Glad the boyfriend is in jail... WHY ISN'T THE MOTHER??
Sorry - the boyfreind raped this little girl multiple times. After rape charges were put against the boyfriend, and the mother was told not to allow ANY men into her home, she let the RAPIST BOYFRIEND back into the house.

I'm sorry - but this woman's first duty is to protect her daughter.. she may have not known what was happening at first, but she knowingly let him back in after she knew full well what he'd done to her daughter after the charges were made.

They're trying for a life sentence for the boyfriend.. the mother deserves to sit next to him. There is NO excuse for this.

I hope the 11 year old can go and live in a foster home.. perhaps a nice foster family can take in both the 11 year old and the baby. Those two children have a huge uphill battle... and I feel horrible for both of them.

54. My very first reaction
is one of horror that the courts are going to forcibly take the baby away from her forever. That is NOT the right thing to do unless the girl asks for it to be done. Of course she's too young to care for the baby all by herself, so the least damaging course of action for both mother and baby is to find a foster care home that can take them both together, so that at least the girl can have daily contact with her child, and perhaps grow into the role of being a mother by the time she's an adult. In the meantime, the foster parents can care for the baby's daily needs as well as the young girl's.

It really comes down to consent, in the end. The fact that they're taking this to court indicates that the girl isn't willing to voluntarily give up her baby forever--otherwise, why would they be trying to force her to do it via the courts? It's heartbreaking enough that she was forced to endure rape, and then pregnancy, but now she's going to be hurt yet again if they take the baby away from her without her consent. Hasn't the poor child been through enough already? God. There has to be SOMEONE out there willing to welcome this little girl and her baby into their home. I'd do it myself if I lived in her state and wasn't a dirt-poor college student.

I just can't stand the thought of this young girl being victimized yet again. Having your child taken away from you is a horrific thing for an adult woman to go through, much less an already-traumatized eleven-year-old girl.

56. What?!
This little girl doesn't have the maturity to bond to that baby. The best thing that can happen for both of them is for that baby to go to a good home. So both of them can get the care they need.

This little girl has no clue about "forever". She's ELEVEN.
