More on the meat recall
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23281674/

Seems that 1/3 of all the recalled meat went to school lunch programs! When will congress make sure our food supply is safe? What will it take for them to stop playing politics with the lives of every american in this country?

We need more inspcetions of these corporate run meat packing plants, and we need to crack down hard on those who are found to be breaking the law by using cattle that may be sick with mad cow disease. As with so many other large corporations, it's the "greed" that is running things, and they could care less about the safety of the people in this country.

1. This isn't about McCain's meat recall, is it?
Just kidding. This is a serious topic that threatens our National Security.

2. I still haven't found a comprehensive list of ALL the school districts that had the recall meat.
I'm in NY and apparently my research skills bite! I haven't found the wholesale distributors that bought this meat from this slaughterhouse either. I'm at a loss, with meat in my freezer and no money to buy other food, we are just eating what we have left this week which is not good.

5. Our list of schools came from the PA Dept of Agriculture...
You could maybe check the NY Dept of Agriculture site and see if they have a list.

3. 30 Local School Districts Served Recalled Meat.....
here in Lancaster County PA. Yesterday people were commenting on the article in the newspaper saying "well, no one got sick"! DUH!!
Keep in mind this is the reddest county in the state...the Democratic candidates generally don't even campaign here. We live amongst freepers! I truly don't like it here.

:(

4. Parents need to quite feeding their kids unsafe/uninspected meat
which is pretty much any USDA product. My boys eat a lot of PB and J.

7. Why Are People So Surprised?
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 08:52 AM by LINDAF
What amazes me is that the 'concerned' public is acting as if this whole debacle is something new! This is SOP for the meat industry. USDA knows it. The suppliers know it. The salesperson who purchases a truckload of MacDonald's frozen hamburgers knows it and you can be damn sure the underpaid, illegal alien employees who primarily populate these slaughter houses know it.

Just because someone (HSUS) shines a light on these bastards, doesn't mean they haven't been operating like this all along. Remember: cockroaches still scurry around in the dark whether you can see them or not.

10. Welcome to DU!
Agreed, but it's time that a brighter light was used to light up this problem. The more people see it, hear about it, talk about it, hopefully the more people will shun it and demand better from our government.

8. Our school district looked into it and isn't affected.
Good thing our kids don't eat much there, though. I pack most days. We all can't eat dairy, so that eliminates more than half of the school lunches.

9. I live in Washington state
And when this first came to light, the papers reported that numerous schools in my area had received meat from this company. The whole process of keeping America safe from this kind of thing seems to have gone down the toilet! We can spend billions every month in Iraq to fight a needless war, yet we can't come up with the money to put more inspectors to work to protect our food supplies.

I sure hope change come with the nest president!

11. I hope change comes, too.

It's terrifying to think of what gets through. If they keep finding toxic crap in our food when they do check, what isn't getting checked? :scared:
