I want to give a shout out to Bob Casey Jr - the new democratic senator from Pennsylvania

You know, it was a big stink even after the primaries about Bob Casey Jr. He was known for one thing - being the son of a very anti-choice governor of Pennsylvania and also being 'anti-choice' himself (although personally I think of him more as pro-life, more on that later).

I'm looking at the rollcall for this controversial FISA amendment and there was Bob Casey - supporting Dodd and the others that wanted to strip away immunity. I've followed him on some other votes, including a few hard-core activist judges that would have brought anti-choice values to the bench and Casey did not support those judges either.

Casey is far from the perfect democrat, but I feel he's proven his worthiness in the Democratic party with supporting many of the progressive stances we have here at DU. Casey has become more than just the replacement for Rick Santorum but he's on his way to becoming a damn good senator for us on DC.

And as for his stance on choice, which was never as hardcore as his father or the man that Casey Jr replaced in the senate, Santorum, he still believes in birth control and has stated support in EC. Perhaps Casey is one of those democrats that feel the best option for prevent abortions is proactive - education, health care affordability on the tops of that list. And Casey, unlike Santorum even on his best days, proves that being 'pro-life' means fighting for the fetus once it is born. Casey definately will support those causes, something Santorum never did.

9. It's A Diverse Party

It's easy to get frustrated when a vote doesn't go our way and when members of our own party defect, but that's the perils of being such a diverse party. Some here wish for the same lock-step mind-think that prevail on the other side of the aisle...but look what its brought us.

how dare we expect our representatives to protect our most basic of Constitutional rights...the right to privacy. How dare we expect our representatives to demand an equal justice system.

My senator, Webb, promised several times to fight against retroactive immunity, yet when the vote counted, he buckled in favor of immunity. I'm not feeling as lovey-dovey towards him today as Lynn appears to be towards Casey. Some things are just FUCKING inexcusable and this is one of them.
