A Weird Strange Feeling

The Oscars are watched by millions of people in 192 countries. Tonight’s estimates are that a billion people will tune in.

When Al Gore’s Documentary, An Inconvenient Truth wins tonight, it will propel him into the stratosphere of deep respect and heartfelt admiration around the world.

This is great news for him and bad news for some.

Take George Bush for instance. Gore’s win will remind people of the choice we had in 2000 and blew it. Why didn’t we fight harder for all the votes to be counted? Why did we allow the Supreme Court to select our President? People will be struck that everything would be different had Gore been President for the past 7 years. Bush’s poll numbers have never been lower and we all remember what happened the last time his numbers sank to all time lows.

For Hillary and all the other Democratic contenders, with the exception of Dennis Kucinich, Gore will make them all appear as the political opportunist that they are. Calculating their public pronouncements for one thing and one thing only; to be elected President of the United States irrespective of what is right for the country and the world.

So what's with this weird strange feeling that I can’t seem to shake.

Something big would have to happen to take the bright hot spotlight off of Al Gore. But what? By whom?

Hopefully, I can come back tomorrow and see how unfounded my fears of today are. Talk me down, please.

1. He's a lock
to win best Documentary. Dunno if he's going to be running for President, but tonight is his night.

2. Let's hope his recent passionate demeanor shines when he gets up there!
Hearing lots of people lately say things like: WOW! If he had come across like that in 2000, the world would be a very different place now!

Hope he takes it to them in this opportunity!

Go AL! The whole world (just about) is watching.

3. Most effective "non-campaign" ever?
--- If Gore is angling for the democratic nomination by playing hard to get, then he's doing a great job of it. And I sincerely hope that will prove to have been the case. We could damn sure use a president who is the kind of person who devotes their energies to something useful and important even when they're NOT in politics.

4. Maybe
if Obama and Hillary are even by the time of the convention, and it gets nasty, he'll try to get drafted on the floor.

5. You're not alone

Others are feeling a bit "antsy" as well. I don't have any psychic leanings (as I know of LOL) but merely by rubbing a few of my remaining brain cells together I have come up with the notion that the * Cabal is desperate. And we all know how those bloodthirsty beasts get when they are desperate.

You're not alone in wondering just how far they will go to stay in power. But they are being closely watched and I only trust that if they pull a tragedy, this time people will revolt against them rather than against the ideals of their own country.

I don't trust the system; I do trust that most people see through NEOcon bullshit now....

6. That is exactly what I am feeling
But I didn't want to go there. They are cornered rats right now and we all know what that means.

I just wish I didn't feel this way. I hope you are right about the people, but I don't have the faith that you do. I almost posted this in the A,S,A forum instead of GD. They are pretty good at talking people down.

7. God forbid they strike Iran to take the attention away from Gore.
Remember how they exposed and destroyed the British investigation into the *cough* terror plot to blow up airliners in flight? That was to take the spotlight away from Lamont winning against Lieberman. No coincidence, we know they've done it before.

Al Gore's documentary, the spotlight on Gore as probably the Man of the Century, and it's quite plausible that bush and cheney will make a desperate move to take attention away from him.

8. Exactly
They can't let Gore have that kind of exposure. We have seen this numerous times before. I hope I am 100% wrong.

12. In helping to talk you down
as I mentioned in another thread, it is doubtful they would strike Iran tonight as Cheney is in the Persian Gulf right now. I don't know if anything else will happen, but I don't think Iran will be it.

9. personally, I think you should try and shake it off
Usually, when they are trying to distract, it's from something they don't want most people to hear about, and protecting themselves. I don't think the Oscars fit into any serious threat to this administration, even having Gore there. Sure, they don't like his popularity, but I wouldn't think it would unmask any of their wrong doing.

Now, if it were known that Gore was to announce running, that could be something that would raise my concern, a little bit. I think the consensus here is that he wouldn't do it tonight anyway, if he were to do it at all... hence this evening doesn't affect them one way or another.

I'm going to sit back and enjoy every second of Al Gore. We have so little to enjoy, I'm not letting go of it.. I hope you don't too... we all deserve some happiness.

Just my two cents.

10. Let me point his out to you
once the supremes made their decision, there was just one more choice. Gore didn't want to take the counry down that road.

In case you need me to spell it out for you, that road is insurrection, civil war...

He fought as hard as anybody could WITHIN the system.

He gets that. Why most folks don't still befudles me.

So my question is, were you willing to take up arms? I suspect the anwer from the last six years is NO

11. I have the same feeling
And I don't think it is weird at all, so I am not going to try and "talk you down" so to speak. I can say that you should try to stay as optimistic as possible and don't let all of the real negativity get to you.

13. Ummmm, It's Just The Oscars. Methinks You're Putting Just A Bit More Weight On It Than It Deserves.
I think undoubtedly Al will win and he deserves to. It will bring him much deserved respect and recognition. But that's all it is; an award. It'll be great to see him win and all, but no; I don't think for a second that any democratic contenders will be made to appear as political opportunists blah blah nor is there the slightest logically sane reason to believe something big will happen to take the spotlight off of Gore etc..

It's just the Oscars. Just watch 'em and enjoy 'em.

When he accepts. Similar phrasing would be acceptable.

18. Considering the assassinations we've all witnessed, I don't blame you
a bit.

JFK, RFK, MLK. And god knows who else while we were busy trying to survive.

Imho, you have good radar, Jeanette. Let's hope Mr. Gore does, too. :(

19. You're worried
That Al Gore will get assassinated because somebody doesn't want him to win a Best Documentary Oscar?

Wouldn't it have been more effective to assassinate him before he won the popular vote in 2000?

I don't think anyone powerful really cares about who wins the Best Documentary Oscar.

21. I'm not worried about an assassination attempt
I'm thinking more along the lines of something happening to take the spotlight off of Gore as soon as possible. He is going to get excellent press coverage of this all over the world. Some might not like the attention that he will garner.
