Keith Olbermann just apologized on behalf of all of MSNBC
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 08:19 PM by BerryBush
for David Shuster's remark. He managed to convey both his own respect for Shuster as a reporter, his personal dismay and upset at the remark, and his understanding of the outrage and upset of the Clintons, as well as the regret of MSNBC, soberly and straightforwardly.

Keith Olbermann is a class act.

That is all.

2. KO is a class act
I've seen him apologize for what he said and for what others have said on his show w/o there being a firestorm. Remember him apologizing for a remark Allison Stewart made about Wendy Vitter's leopard skin print dress?

14. I don't think that was Allison Stewart. It was a rt. wing blond-hair substitute. nt

28. Actually, it WAS Stewart. I recall it well.
But whether or not it was her idea, I do not know.

And the funny thing is, the print wasn't leopard at all, it just looked that way on TV.

4. Wow, he didn't say boo about the whole Imus affair.
I'm surprised he did that, given his professed personal rule about criticizing his colleagues.

13. Really? I distinctly remember an interview where he explained why he was silent.
Did he rip Imus after he got fired? I'd love to read that if you have a link.

25. I think he blasted him on the air after the firing
Prior to that he was campaigning inside NBC to the higher ups to can Imus because it wasn't a one time event but was a common complaint among staffers. Sorry no link.

40. Not only blasted Imus, KO fired off some good shots at station heads who kept cutting slack for him
KO pointed out a LONG history of complaints about Imus from other employees who he had also offended and been abusive to. Imus had an earned reputation, in-house, for being a pig and KO pointed that all out. It was beee-uti-full to watch.

He said that the Clinton's were "pimping out" Chelsea for the campaign because she has been calling some of the super delegates on her mothers behalf.

6. I don't see anything wrong with Shuster's statement
It was raw and the wrong choice of words but there is truth in what he said. I think this is being blown way out of proportion.

19. What he said - check out this thread
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3174507

The "pimped out" reference is about a comment Shuster made while filling in for Tucker Carlson yesterday. He was talking about Chelsea Clinton's role in her mother's campaign. Shuster said, "Doesn't it seem like Chelsea's sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?"

are pimping out Chelsea.' I'm sure that the actual quote is around here somewhere.

27. Even if what you said were true, the point is no other family member of any other candidate
was singled out as being exploited, even though all family members are utilized by the various campaigns. Romney's sons were blatantly used. Why were they not the subject of his comment? because they have penises?

15. cool
The one thing that I always regretted about his show is that he couldn't give worst person status to Matthews or Russert for all their stupid comments. So I am pretty glad he did this.

Maybe it is the fact that Matthews & Russert are the top guys there, and Shuster isn't that he was able to, but it's good that he did.

I bet there are times he wanted to. And Russert has a ton of power at NBC - remember it was he who the WH people like Rove and Libby called to complain about Tweety's rants against them and the war.
