Harold Ford is a piece of work..
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 05:21 AM by SoCalDem
He was a guest on Charlie Rose's show tonight and about 6 or 7 times he emphasized how "important" it was for US to determine a candidate ASAP, because it looks like republicans will have "theirs" very soon, and it would be "bad' for us to "drag this out" ..allowing republicans to rest and to gather steam so they can fight our candidate..

Apparently he's not willing to wait until all the delegates are added up....seems to think we need to hurry and decide..and stressed how important the super delegates could be in "helping make a decision"..

My question is this??

Why even seat delegates or go through all the hassle & expense of having a convention?

Why not just get Harold & the super delegates together in an Olive Garden meeting room somewhere..and they can just decide...for the "good of the party"..

I would be royally pissed if I was named a delegate, and then had to "hurry up" or risk the "supers" making the decision for us all...before the convention..

People used to announce they were RUNNING...in JUNE..and it's barely feb, and Harold wants us to hurry up.. :wtf:

1. Does this happen every time and I never noticed before?
It's like we're a herd of inconvenient cattle or something. :wtf:

2. The Democratic constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do....
is lay out enough silage and they come running. That's why I became an operative working with Democrats. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd.

Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don't have a clue as to political reality.
What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want.

The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn't have a clue than there were Republicans.

Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you're smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That's why I'm a Democrat. I can make the Democratic voters think whatever I want them to.”

These are all quotes from James Carville

I hope he says this to his DLC buddy.

I don't like Ford but he's right. More time and money spent fighting eachother means fewer resource go to fighting the Republicans.

8. Why even have the rest of the primaries, then?
and why have a process, if the "leaders" can countermand everything and then change rules if they want..

10. If there's a clean winner
then it doesn't make sense. I'd say more people had their state primaries matter this year than in the last 5 Presidential elections.

9. harold comes from a long line of pieces of work

the ford family is a constant source of entertainment in tennessee

...Rep. Ford himself has said he'll stay neutral regarding Cohen and his brother Jake. But the rest of the family is splitting over the race. Joe Ford Jr., an entertainment lawyer who finished third in the congressional primary — and is first cousin to both Jake Ford and Harold Ford Jr. — has endorsed Cohen. But Harold Sr., a former congressman, has gone all-out for son Jake, especially since longtime rival Herenton put down young Ford as unqualified (he dropped out of high school) and accused the Fords of seeking "a monopoly on all elected positions in this state and this county." Jake, if elected as an independent, has promised to caucus with House Democrats.
