I'm sorry I doubted some of you about the horrors of Wal-Mart.
I had no idea how evil they really were. They must be stopped, otherwise this will be happening all over America!

Victim Making Demands Of Wal-Mart After Snake Bite

POSTED: 11:57 am EST February 22, 2007
UPDATED: 5:00 pm EST February 22, 2007

VIERA, Fla. -- A Brevard County man is taking on Wal-Mart, after he was attacked by a poisonous snake inside one of its stores. He is warning shoppers about a problem, which has sent more people to hospitals than you might ever think.

John Page ended up in the emergency room at Wuestoff Hospital after he was attacked by a pygmy rattlesnake last November. He talked publicly for the first time, Friday, about what happened.

"I pulled my hand out of the shopping cart and, to my surprise, there is a 14-to-18 inch snake hanging off of my finger," he said.

in The Onion's "man on the street" type interviews. This is hilarious. I'm waiting for someone to reply with an accusation that Wal-Mart might be doing this on purpose.

6. So What Exactly Did Walmart Do Here That's So Evil?
According to their press release, they even seemed open to paying the bills. It's not like they held the guy down and threw a snake on him or anything, and I didn't read anything that would indicate this is any more common than a once in a blue moon freak thing. So what did Walmart do here that's actually evil, if you don't mind me asking?

21. I'll Defend Against Anything Or Anybody That Has Unsubstantiated Attack Thrown On Them.
I do so because it is always the right thing, and in my opinion liberal thing, to do.

So instead of attacking me personally, like someone of weak mind might, care to actually address the context of my post, as you were supposed to to begin with?

30. Perfectly Fine Try. Please, I Implore You,
tell me what's not liberal about defending things from attack where there is no legitimacy to the root of the attack itself? Isn't it noble to do so? Isn't it the right thing to do? If so, isn't that of liberal mind? Can you explain how it isn't?

You just want to bait and provoke here for sake of doing so, it seems, since I only see you attacking my person rather than actually refuting any context. Maybe you should try the latter for once.

31. "Snakes in a supermarket"
Is it usual to find snakes in a retail establishment?

Perhaps there was some negligance in housekeeping. Normally snake-proof entrances were left open and unsupervised maybe.

Maybe one of their underpaid employees was unable to thoroughly inspect the snake-infested merchandise, imported from a low-wage snake-infested developing country.

Maybe the whole thing is unfortunate accident out of "news of the weird"?

It may be a side story, thought there are still some 2-legged snakes with the last name of Walton at large. Those sort of snakes I am very concerned about.

I just hope nobody finds snakes at Costco. It would blow their whole blue image.

32. Agree with you here...
I mean, who would expect snakes in Florida?

Maybe there is a way to keeps snakes out of the potted plants in the garden center, but when I lived in Florida first rule was to look for creepy crawlies wherever you stuck your hand. Found all sorts of critters getting into my apartment, too-- always checked the floor and tub before setting foot down.

When I visited Arizona, we were warned by the locals to watch out for scorpions who get real testy about being stepped on. And that was in some of the hotels.

You just can't fool Mother nature.

Wal-Mart sucks for many reasons, but assuming they settle with the guy, this isn't one of them.

8. I don't know about this, but at the WalMart I worked at
Edited on Sat Feb-24-07 12:06 AM by provis99
they took over the local Woolco branches, fired all the Woolco employees because they made $2/hr more than what Walmart would pay its hourly workers ($4.15/hr in my hometown), and proceeded to humiliate its new staff with the managers telling them they were here to stay at Walmart because no one else would hire them. They forced us to do a ridiculous childish Walmart cheer every morning, and told us how glad we should be that the Walmart corportation was making tons of money. I told my boss that the pathetic cheer was inappropriate for adults trying just to earn a living, so I was fired on the spot.
Thanks for making me realize what a truly rotten corporation you are, Walmart.

Have managed to avoid buying anything at Walmart for the past 12 years as a result.

41. I have been
in the local WalMart on several occasions when they were having their little employee circle jerk. It's given me great pleasure to stroll right into the middle and tell the management, after the little cheer, loud enough for all to hear that, they should start paying them all a living wage then they would really have something to cheer about. Needless to say it's gotten me some dirty looks and I have noticed that they no longer have their meeting in the main isles, now they do it in a corner in the back of the store.

10. They're not the smartest knives in the shoebox...
Some of have to deal with Walmart...it's a fact of life. I make no apology.

The Walmart nearest to where I live is closing its fabric department. This decision is NOT going over well with those who work there, even though they will be transferred to other areas.
I was asked, as were many other people who frequent (!) that department to let the management know that this wasn't a popular decision.

Turns out it's really stupid marketing-wise too.

Let me give you some background first. There are two Walmarts here, one on the West End, and one in the Heights (east side of town, but it's called the Heights- don't ask me, I didn't name it).
There's 10 miles between the two.
The store on the West End, which will be keeping their fabric department, is less than two miles from TWO specialty fabric stores- Joann Fabrics, and Hancock Fabrics.
Pretty stiff competition- if it's a choice between Walmart and a REAL fabric store, I'll take the REAL fabric store 8 outta 10...especially if I have to drive 10 miles to get into the area.

The store in the Heights is 10 miles from any other kind of fabric or sewing notion store.
For all intents and purposes, NO competition.

OK, I like the ladies in the fabric department...they've helped me with a googleload of projects and clothes and stuff for folks, so I try to get on to the website and point the above out to them.
COOKIE ERROR COOKIE ERROR COOKIE ERROR
Great. This means I have to call, and I get some poor soul who's waaaaaay down the food chain, and the chances of this bit of info getting to anyone who might see the point are zip.

I don't want to have to drive ten miles everytime I need thread, or elastic, or a new belt for the machine.
YES, I've got stuff 'stocked up for just in case', but you still run out of things.

13. They had an employee catch the rattlesnake!
An employee was able to catch the 12-year-old serpent, put it in a cup and give it to paramedics. Page took pictures of the reptile with his camera phone from his bed at the hospital.

What the fuck is wrong with the management at that Wal-Mart? That snake already put one person in the hospital, and they ordered, or at minimum allowed an employee to risk his life and health to catch the snake. There's another potential lawsuit...

What they should have done was call their city's Animal Control.

I can count on one hand how many times I have gone in there, and I try to avoid whenenver possible. The only reason I went before was my friend wanted to get something there and I was tagging along but it confirmed my opinion. Ultra cheap merchandise, rude service, if you can get service at all, and well, the clientele was what I imagined, a bunch of right wing Bush lovin people.

26. Snakes in the Garden Center don't make Wal-Mart evil, snakes in the corp. offices do.
Snake bites have happened at Lowe's and Home Depot Garden Centers too. A google search will bring up several stories like this.

Here's one from last spring in Austin, TX. at Home Depot.

http://www.kvue.com/news/local/stories/041106kvuesnakebite-cb.26a26354.html

I would imagine it's happened at smaller, independent garden centers too. We just don't hear about those because the customers probably know the owners & handle it without making the news.
