It seems like all the Republicans ever want to talk about is immigration, so they must think that's a winning issue for them.

2. My esteemed Senator, Elizabeth Dole (bitch), said that her office had never
received the amount of mail on any other issue as it had on immigration. So I think it's a hot topic with Repugs.

7. So ironically, the immigration issue could help the Democrats, if Hispanics vote as a "backlash"
against all the Republican tirades against immigrants and the Minutemen stuff?

16. Absolutely.
The reknucklians were having some success with their homophobia, anti-abortion, and 'fambly values' crap with hispanic voters. The more they have tirades against 'illegals', the less effective that effort has become.

3. For us, it's the economy/energy, followed by health care
but this could change, depending on what stupid move the Chimp pulls next. I do know that the man on the street isn't fooled by the "tax rebates", nor do they think the economy is going to improve any time soon. A Dem who has a plan to fix the economy and do something about energy prices at the same time would have a winning theme going for them, I think.

4. There are no actual issues that favor Reknucklians

The Reknucklians don't run issue campaigns. They run mad attack dog campaigns with plausible deniability. Democrats run issue campaigns. They have been advised by 1,000/hr friggin idiots to have issue of the day themed campaigns that cover all sorts of feel good warm'n'fuzzy carebear issues. Then they get sandbagged by the plausibly deniable mad attack dogs in concert with the stenographic echo chamber from the Bullshit Media System and spend 90% of the campaign explaining that they can't stop beating their spouse.

But considering their history...

6. If they focus on immigration, they're dead
Most people don't seem to be interested the immigration issue and making immigration a top priority would probably unleash a lot of ugliness among the GOP's base similar to that which was on display when the GOP attempted "immigration reform" that I'm sure that they don't want on full public display during an election season. Frankly, I can't think of a lot of issues that specifically "favor" either party, particularly the GOP at this point. The GOP's position on just about every major issue has been largely (if not completely) discredited over the past 8 years that they've controlled the White House and Congress (for most of it) and most people believe that our country is headed in the wrong direction which, in and of itself, would seem to favor Democrats on pretty much every issue this year. Not only that but all of the major GOP candidates pretty much endorse Bush's policies and have vowed to more or less continue them if elected. I think that this election will largely turn on the personality of each party's respective candidates, although I just can't see people being as enthusiastic about any of the prospective GOP candidates as the Democratic candidates (i.e. Hilary, Barack), whom seem to be drawing the most media attention during this campaign season.

9. So if it's a personality contest, they'll have to resort to swiftboating...

17. Sure
I've learned never to underestimate the GOP when it comes to (s)elections and maybe I'm being a bit naive but I just can't imagine how the GOP is going to overcome its staggeringly high negatives this time around even by "swiftboating" the Democratic candidate and I doubt that any of the major Democratic candidates (particularly Hilary) will simply lie down and "take it" like some of our past candidates. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they pull out this time around. Hilary will probably provoke some of more vicious attacks if she is the nominee but I can't imagine what they could pull out on her that hasn't already been covered to death in the past 15 years.

18. Issues? You must be joking...
There are no issues. There is only sobbing and deifying Reagan and expensive haircuts and square footage of various McMansions and who's the biggest Jesus freak and Bill's back and the fake Obama Koran episode and Mormon undergarments and economic stimulation bribes and The Crying of Lot 49.

And UFOs. Don't forget UFOs.

And terror, terrorists, terrorism, fear, insecurity and more terror.

Oh, and tax cuts too because you just can't have a proper country unless its infrastructure dates back to the 19th century and it hasn't been maintained since. Makes crossing that bridge ever so much more exciting.

19. If DC beats Heller at the Supreme Court, Clinton and Obama's gun grabbing
will bite us in the ass big time. I don't think it will be enough to make us lose (I also don't think DC will win the case), but it won't help.
