Huckabee told an audience in Myrtle Beach that if someone came to Arkansas and told people in the state what to do with their flag, "we'd tell 'em what to do with the pole."

I think we all know what he meant by that ...

Now, is that any way for an (allegedly) moral, Christian, man-of-God, ex-minister to talk?

I think the basic dynamic is "Because I am Christian, I am good. I'm reborn so nothing I do is genuinely evil. Sometimes I make "mistakes" but I'm already forgiven because of Jesus, so my mistakes don't really matter." They don't have the self awareness to see their own inclinations toward the things that they hate. This is why, amongst other things, you hear those who oppose GLBT lifestyles refer to GLBT in such vivid sexually specific language.

And e.g. Huckabee's hate and, hence desire to kill people, was expressed in his "Gates of Hell" remark. He wants to kill people first and ask questions later, if ever.
