Poll question: So, is right wing ideology just normality now?

Is the Left's acheivements of the past to be swept under the rug to simply court the Right?

What's happening now in the US is a lot like what happened just at the end of the Thatcher era. Labour had a mandate for change, real change, but all that had to happen was a bit of deal-making behind the scenes and it was made sure that Tony got in instead. Everyone was so sick of the conservatives they were willing to vote for anyone.

And so we got Tony.

I'll try to be fair, he wasn't all that bad and manged some good by stealth but good by stealth is easily undone by overt malice, and understand this, Britain's Left was destroyed by that move. They became so paranoid about triangulation that they felt they had to become as visibly right as possible, they had to court the Home Counties, you see. That's where all the votes were. That perhaps they already had enough support from elsewhere didn't occur to them. They were all so desperate to get rid of the Right they listened to any carpet-bagging image consultant they could lay their hands on and before they knew it out went the thinking in in bled the image of New Labour.

So, guys, is that's what's going to happen to you?

Are you all going to go Right on me?

2. I think that your problem is a false premise.
I really don't think that labor has a mandate for change right now.

7. Okay.

Perhaps no as useful a comparison as I thought. One of the things that brought me to the idea was knowing that universal health care is becoming more popular, but I guess that's not necessarily indicative of a large enough sea change in attitude.

3. If by normal you mean typical of the American population, then yes.
Because the political left has been such a dismal failure at communicating its purpose and making sure the rest of the country on board; the right has had the playground to itself for the past thirty or so years. As a result the public's default mode is conservative.
