I was just threatened because I have a bumper sticker...
I was stopped at a light in downtown Boca when a guy with a southern drawl pulled along side my car yelling "If that dirty
Muslim gets elected I'm gonna come lookin fer you".
I remain dumbfounded.

4. Wow. a flat-earther
Don't let them make you fear. They are bullies. Next time you have some knuckle-dragger like that approach you, ask them why they aren't in Iraq. Also, it wouldn't hurt the guy to get a visit from the cops. People need to understand they can't be threatening idiots. I would classify that as a threat.

20. As a long time Southerner, I must tell you that a large number
of the "mouth breathers" down here are armed and just looking for the opportunity to shoot someone. I recommend that you not try to settle your political differences by on the spot verbal remarks.

I'm aware that you have every right to do so. It would be fair for you to do so. But, you will be running a real risk of being shot. Also, remember that Florida allows its citizens to shoot anyone that they feel threatened by. With no witnesses, the shooter could claim that you threatened him.

You don't want to wind up being "right" but dead.

house. When my husband is out of town, I sleep with a knife under his pillow... so if someone dare attack me... I can slide my hand under there and slice and dice if given the chance!!

I'm not sure if I could actually stick ANYONE... but I'm going to try to be protected if only it's in my mind!

68. Sounds to me like the jerk felt "threatened" merely by the
presence of a bumpersticker. And the first incident which is triggered by something like that should generate so much protest among people that these yahoos will find themselves with a criminal record and no more access to their guns.

It is bad enough that these yahoos believe they possess firearms to bully and intimidate others and they expect to take no responsibility for their own actions.

Right now he's probably slow dancing with his bleach blond tramp, and she's probably getting frisky...
right now, he's probably buying her some fruity little drink cause she can't shoot whiskey...

Right now, he's probably up behind her with a pool-stick, showing her how to shoot a combo...

And he don't know...

That I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped up 4 wheel drive,
carved "Obama" into his leather seats...
I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...

Maybe next time he'll think before he speaks.

that are anti-bush, etc all over the back of his van. And we live in Texas.

We don't have people bothering us....why?

Because right next to his 'Would-somebody-please-give-Bush-a-blow-job-so-we-can-impeach-him' bumper sticker is his

'Taekwondo: for-the-kick-of-your-life' bumper sticker.

Now granted, my husband actually does practice Taekwondo. But who's to say you need to know it to put it on your car?

They leave us alone....lol.

I've seen plenty of people give us dirty looks, and then quickly leave us alone when they get to the martial arts bumper stickers.

try it. see what happens.

And second, "I'm gonna come lookin fer you?" In a city the size of Boca Raton, he threatened to "come lookin fer you?" What, he's got GPS in his pickup truck?

when I went to elem school in the 70's the superintendent was very open about busing me to a white school that was an hour away rather than having me go to the "insert racist word here" school... My mom was adamant that I go to school in my neighborhood, and I was one of 5 light skinned kids in my class (being part Mexican, I wasn't "black" or "white" enough)

But it was at college in MN that the wrestling team and coach took the African-American team members out in the middle of nowhere and dropped them off in a field w/ a burning cross and team members dressed in white hoods. Of course up here it was called a Halloween prank

41. I know how you feel; I was threatened last Friday.
I was at our weekly peace vigil, which occurs on private church property (UCC church). The shopowner across the street, a knuckledragger, pushed one of our peaceniks, and threatened to tear up his signs. I found the old social worker coming out in me (retired seven years ago), and I shouted, "Stop! That's assault and battery, and it's illegal!" Knuckledragger glared at me, like he was going to come at me (ol' lady of 49 years), and I glared back, holding my cellphone. He went back across the street.

It turns out Knuckledragger's son is in Iraq; he's the shopowner across the street. We later had one of the calmer ladies speak to him, and informed him that we were peaceful, but would call the police if we felt unsafe. We informed him that we support the troops - we want them brought home - alive. I guess he calmed down a bit.

That was after a couple walking down the street informed us about how Muslims wanted to invade and kill us; "A" stated, "That's funny. I'm Muslim, and I've never wanted to kill anyone. I believe in peace." The couple's respective faces blanched, and they literally backed up. I began laughing hysterically (which they didn't appreciate).

And I'm in Southern California.

I went home and told my hubby that, for some reason, they are getting nuttier and nuttier (and more violent).

We have to continue to stand up for what we believe in; THAT is the American way.

Take care! I'm sorry you went through that.

44. I've Been Saying This For A While Now... I Live In The Same State...
and even this state isn't considered "deep south" but there is still a LOT of racism and I'm not trying to stir up dirt either!!

Where I live in a very red county... in 2004 I got flipped off all the time because of my bumper stickers. And Kerry/Edwards were only Democrats and WHITE!

It's SICK, STUPID and UNREALISTIC and I swear I DON'T understand it at all... but it IS what it IS!

I have many black friends myself, and some have told me straight up that they still see it. Just check the prison system... tells you LOTS!

47. There's racism in every part of the country and every part of the globe
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 12:20 AM by sleebarker
Humans are prejudiced fuckers. Not just ones who live in certain areas. All humans. I know people like to deny it and say, "It's not me or my friends and family or my neighbors. It's that Other group and everything would be okay if it wasn't for them." but guess what, that's prejudiced too. Most humans project their problems on to some Other and take it out on that person or group. If we're going to progress we have to recognize that in ourselves and work on changing it.

Every single fucking group you can think of has its assholes and its idiots and its racists and sexists and homophobes and religious zealots. Every single fucking group. Not just Southerners. We just make a good scapegoat for people in denial of the fact that all humans have the capability to be total assholes.

59. No Argument There... I Always Argue That MOST Wars Have "Religion"
connected to them in some way! That may seem racist too, but I tend to believe it. But do I think what WE did in Iraq was justified? HELL NO! But then, upon reflection from what "little' I actually know about WWII, I don't think I would have agreed with Truman for dropping BOMBS! That's just me!

And I don't know WHY "people" or "humans" for that matter keep fighting and killing. I was simply pointing out, having lived in the south for most of my life... there are some seriously screwed up people, who despite their "ignorance" feel that the FEAR The Idiot, Decider generated is still GREAT and HISTORY will prove it! And because of what he and his cohorts have perpetrated, no matter WHAT evidence you present will continue to believe that Obama is a Muslim!

It's NOT true and I can say it til the cows come home... and you may hear it all the time where you live, I don't know! I was born in PA, but because my father was in the military, I ended up in the south since I was 11 years old! But are Northeastern states and Western states more liberal that where I live?? Some states are changing, and Florida has many transplants for sure... still when you check out which states vote a certain way Or states who are able to "fix" the system tend to be more conservative... will they all flip and decide Democrats are better? I STILL get emails from people I went to school with in Texas talking about what BILL CLINTON did!

Some things are ingrained, and I'll bet that more people in the south BELIEVE Obama is a Muslim! We shall see how it plays out... so don't attack me for what I happen to see "out in the open" and not hiding behind closed doors! And then ask yourself why all of a sudden there is a rash of Ministers who seem to want to denigrate Obama. Do they think he's an Uncle Tom?? I DON'T know!

I was raised to be inclusive and to think as many Indians do... DON'T judge until you walk a mile in another shoes! And THAT'S UNIVERSAL for me!

I could go on and on about prejudice and idiotic beliefs people have, but historically it seems the south has NEVER recovered from the loss of the Civil War! Obnoxious as the day is long... still it's there. It would be better if those in power had the good sense not to inflame them, but stop and think for a moment about the ratio of blacks elected in the south to the ratio of those elsewhere. And it has improved since the marches, but when dumb-f--ks add the word "muslim" into the mix... Go figure! I could be totally wrong, it would be nice if I were... we shall see!

I'm not one of those who spread the shit... and I correct any who spew it, even though I actually support Edwards. It's wrong when others ban together and make any ethnic group outcasts.

It's very late down here... I'm going to bed. If I'm wrong it will be proven and that WILL make me happy... not for Obama, but for humanity!

53. I've had my tires slashed and my car keyed by some asshole who
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 01:19 AM by calimary
didn't like my bumper stickers. It actually made me feel complimented. I don't know of ANYONE on our side of the political fence who responds that way to oppositional bumper stickers. The worst I've done is leave a note on the windshielf of some knuckledragger's big-ass pickup truck that was festooned with yellow and red-white-&-blue ribbon magnets and bumper stickers including "freedom isn't free" and "I support pResident bush." My note, btw, said "are your cheap made-in-China yellow ribbons buying them more body armor?"

When my car was vandalized, it made me feel vindicated, and proud to be among the Good Guys. It just seemed like a metaphor, to me, of the kind of character we see manifested on their side. THAT bunch does shit like THAT. And there was the proof.

I had an interesting encounter with another mom when I was driving up to fetch my kid from drama practice. She'd arrived to pick hers up, also. I saw a bumper sticker on the back of her car that I thought was interesting, but I couldn't read it all, so I circled around to make sure. It was "bush makes nixon look good!" I was tickled (always good to see the solidarity shown by another motorist). As I parked, I saw her approach on foot. I hollered out - "I love your bumper sticker!!!" and gave her a big thumbs-up. She approached me, visibly relieved. She said something to the effect of "I saw you looking and I got a little worried - I figured it was the bumper sticker and I wasn't sure what you thought." Evidently she's been hassled, too. I reassured her that there are A LOT of us out there who agree with her WHOLEHEARTEDLY. And yes, I'm SHOUTING.

Well, FUCK 'EM. We're HERE TO STAY.

I also was driving, with MY "offensive" bumper stickers on display, and been given a look that could kill by some other baboon in the next lane who glowered at me, and KEPT glowering at me as I slowed down, ever so slightly, to sink behind him and let him pass me. So, mister, how long are you gonna do be able to do 80 on the Ventura Freeway if you're craning your neck looking BACKWARDS at me to give me another one of those vicious, menacing dirty looks, 'eh? My response was to smile sweetly at him and blowing him a kiss.

And yes, you were threatened. That was a threat of what sounds like stalking or great bodily harm, to say the least. Next time, be sure you get a license number. And record at minimum the date and time if you can. You can always fill in the details later. I keep a pad and pen in the console between the driver's seat and the passenger seat, just in case.

57. No bias in YOUR post, is there?
Not applying the same kind of bias as the OP ascribed to the "guy with the southern accent," are you?

The OP says Southerners are biased and ignorant in one way, but YOU don't think about Southerners in a biased and ignorant way yourself, do you?

Of course not.

61. Did I say all Southerners were rednecks?
Answer: No I didn't.

I am, in fact, a Southerner myself, and I smell minty fresh.

I implied that all rednecks were stinky.

There's plenty more posters to be pissed off at out there.

would have worked.

I dread the day some one tries to give me shit for my bumper stickers. It will be the worst day of their life.

67. It behooves me how these white rednecks seem to consider
themselves above the LAW. . .if he wants to come "lookin fer you". . .he needs to consider that he'll be lookin' for a jail cell and some way out of it.

Why is it that these yahoos can run around aimlessly threatening people as if it is their "god-given" right, and they honestly don't expect the laws to apply to THEM? Rightwingers, especially, seem prone to threats of violence - like middle schoolyard bullies. But it seems to me they never expect to be held responsible for their actions, as if they are "justified" because they have determined they alone are "righteous."

In my opinion, police reports should be filed on every one of these people whenever they issue a threat - with as much identification as possible. There are too many of them who act completely surprised when they commit a crime and are arrested. . .because they think they are the only ones allowed to be "safe." Well, it's time they are told they are no longer allowed to be "safe" to intimidate others. . .

79. I am absolutely telling you all
Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton can not be elected. I would have never believed it when I lived in Northern VA - but since I've moved to FL I absolutely do.....

Electability is one of the main reasons I'm supporting Edwards.

If "they" can make Kerry's military record seem bad compared to the deserter in chief - IMAGINE what "they" will do to Obama or Clinton

I feel this electability issue is particularly true if McCain gets the repunk nomination - and oh by the way several Michigan callers to Thom Hartmann's show earlier this week said they have seen McCain and LIEberman joined at the hip and the buzz is that LIEberman will most likely going to be McCain's VP - JESUS H. CHRIST can you imagine that - I'm going to puke

80. THAT'S why I won't put any bumper stickers on my car here in Ga.
These guys carry guns in their cars, and although I don't really GAS what some idiot screams at me from his car, I'm much more afraid of my car getting keyed while I'm in the grocery store. I know it's 9 years old, but it only has 50,000 miles and still looks like new. I want to keep it that way!
