Breaking: Edwards' daughter hit by alleged drunk driver 14 Jan 2008 (NC) A alleged drunk driver crashed into a car driven by Cate Edwards in Chapel Hill on Friday afternoon. Cate Edwards is the older daughter of presidential candidate John Edwards (D). According to Chapel Hill Police investigators, Edwards was driving a 2007 Ford Sedan when she slowed down at a red light and was rear-ended by a woman driving a 1989 Toyota. Officials with the Edwards Campaign say Cate was not injured in the crash and calls the accident "minor".

16. My car was hit by a drunk driver while at a stop light

about ten years ago. I was so startled by the impact. My body stung as it was flooded with adrenaline and I was shaking. About 10 seconds later, I was hit again! This time, by the same car again as he was hit from behind by that guy's wife, following in another car - also drunk. They were both coming home from a bar and were later convicted. And of course, they didn't have insurance either.

These impacts do have an impact, er, so to speak. My shoulders and neck were sore for several weeks. I was jumpy about cars coming up fast behind me at stop lights for about two years after that. The re-bar under the back bumper had been bent in about 12 inches and to the tune of over $2000 to fix (I did have uninsured motorist's insurance).

46. Cate may have recurring neck problems from this--and I speak from experience

Living in Los Angeles, I was 'rear-ended' (no jokes) three times in four years in the 70's--and every time it was at a red light. I got a whiplash from the first one, which didn't show up until about a month later,
when the muscles went into such serious spasm I could hardly stand up.

I hope Cate doesn't have the same results. For 30 years I've noticed that whenever I'm stressed, or don't do my walking, the muscles tighten up. I haven't had severe spasms for probably 20 years, but whiplash isn't a joke and it's real.
