Superdelegate Endorsements
Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 11:52 AM by Oreo
Some of you may have seen the http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/2008/01/superdelegate-list.html">Endorsing Superdelegate and http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/2008/01/superdelegates-who-havent-endorsed.html">Non-Endorsing Superdelegate lists we've done on http://demconwatch.blogspot.com">2008 Democratic Convention Watch.

I've seen a lot of posts recently linking to our lists with a lot of replies from people that had never seen them. I thought I'd give a quick update on the lists. I won't show them here because they're getting a little too big.

We have a combined total of 786 superdelegates including MI and FL. This is the most definitive list of superdelegates available. 278 of those superdelegates have made endorsements. 508 superdelegates have not made an endorsement yet (including MI and FL).

We also have three Delegate Trackers on the left side of our blog. The first tracks Delegates and Superdelegates for each candidate including Florida and Michigan Delegates. If you're not familiar with Michigan's loss of delegates in tomorrow's primary we have a great post on it http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/2008/01/will-michigan-matter.html">here.

The second tracker lists the tally of delegates and superdelegates without Michigan and Florida.

Finally we have a tracker of how our count stands up against the major media. (DCW is us)

The lists and trackers are all updated on a daily basis as new information comes in.

Any thoughts about what's likely to really happen with the Michigan and Florida delegations? A possible scenario that occurs to me is:
1. Delegations ask to be seated.
2. Credentials committee majority votes not to seat
3. Credentials minority report recommends seating
4. Floor fight! Hot Dem on Dem action that might make it look like the convention actually is a decision-making body.
Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

7. I expect they will be seated for everything except the first presidential ballot.

Given the primary never really took place -- no campaigning, etc -- it would be unfair to let them vote on the first ballot.

10. The whole thing is a mess
We need a single national primary day for Presidential Elections.

MI and FL delegates have basically been disenfranchised from the primaries. Since Obama and Edwards took their names off the ballot allowing them to count wouldn't be fair. People can vote Uncommitted which would pull some delegates from Clinton if it gets at least 15% of the vote.

8. Pelosi said they'll be at the convention
She basically blew any kind of leverage the DNC had out of the water. She said the nominee would be allowed to seat them for the convention.

If all the planets align and hell freezes over and it comes down to a brokered convention I really doubt they'll be seated.

Our main focus is the convention and Michigan lost it's hotel reservations a couple weeks ago.
