The recent “Scary Speedboat Scare” as well as the last Bin Laden tape - full of old stills, disjointed audio, no current references to Iraq, Palestine or any other world events - leads me to believe this administration is way beyond desperate. Industrial Light and Magic obviously refused the contract, but nobody would have fallen for Iranians swinging light sabers and shooting lasers while riding flying carpets anyway: It's just too retro.
However, that's no excuse to provide some random ten year old with a PC, a copy of Windows Movie Maker, some stock footage, a case of Mountain Dew and a request to make something "scary." We Americans demand higher quality in our bogus Terra videos, and this administration, as in every other endeavor, keeps letting us down. The speedboats weren't even painted black with menacing shark-tooth graphics on the bow. And that voice? How scary is Boris sans Natasha? Boris is the buffoon you guys, Natasha is SCARY. When she says the bomb is going off in two minutes, you'd better believe it! And, as the original female suicide bomber, she's got street cred.
Now, I'm not complaining: The Terra this administration has provided for our enjoyment over the past seven years has been, for the most part, first rate. Aside from living in Iraq and being subjected to random daily bombings - with REAL BOMBS - I can't imagine feeling any closer to the real thing, and the addition of economic terror to the equation was simply brilliant. On the other hand, the suspension of the Constitution has proven too subtle for most people to grasp and has failed to generate a sufficient level of panic among the ignorant masses. You may want to rethink that one.
You're slipping because any hint of authenticity is lacking in the media products we're being asked to accept as genuine. Your iron grip on our psyches is faltering and, not only are people questioning WH gospel, some are actually laughing at your amateur productions and your constant gaffes. Considering the amount of money that's been appropriated from the Treasury, we deserve far better. You have neglected to provide enough cash and talent for an effective marketing crusade and it shows.
There's a writer's strike, but the production people are hungry and looking for work – because of the writer's strike. Your goals are clear and the people demand a higher quality of Terra-tainment: It's a match made in... well, you get it. Halliburton, Blackwater, the oil companies and TeleComs won't miss a few hundred million out of the billions you've been funneling their way and, even if they did, it would be easy to explain the necessity of a marketing campaign to justify plundering the planet well into the next decade. If there's one thing the corporate beneficiaries of Terra understand, it's an economic threat to their insanely profitable relationship with Terra. It's not as if they're spending any of that cash on crazy shit like alternative energy development; it's not in the energy plan. Besides, half of them own movie and/or television production studios, so the cash could remain “in the family.”
So, I'm asking: Please invest a little in U.S., provide those under-employed media folk with some work, America and the world with the quality Terra-tainment we've been missing. The potential for an empire built on the Terra brand is an opportunity just begging for the right vision: Think 'Star Wars' or 'Lord of the Rings', spin-offs and product branding, not to mention the insane salaries and residuals you and your corporate cronies would command as producers/backers of such a huge project or the potential of international syndication of Terra beyond Middle East and the U.S. markets.
The world hungers for Terra, this administration does Terra better than anyone and it's not fair to limit it's distribution to the U.S. and Iraq exclusively. The masses are eager to be Terra-ized and we have no right to deny them the freedoms to enjoy Terra in all it's glory. That would be un-American.
