At least the first 10-15 minutes were. I kinda felt sorry for Jon. Then I fell asleep.

5. Really?!? Maybe I'm just getting desperate for new shows?
O.K. yeah, maybe. See the thing is, I think what it is see, is that on the lame "news" days, when the jokes don't write themselves, they do the field pieces that the writers do, so it sort of raises up the low spots to a higher level of funny.

But Colbert is sort of running on fumes.

8. Jon was doing his best and he's an incredible comedian but...
He can't carry the whole show especially when he's holding up for is writers and keeping to union rules. On the same note I saw him the other night from a late 90's standup special and he was hilarious. It showed his great comedy timing without any political references.

10. Yes, he does look a little uncomfortable and lonely
but I think all he needs to time to get used to it. And it's definitely better than nothing.

15. Yes, catch his stand-up act live if you can...
...I saw him Live here in Atlanta about 10 years ago (before he got The Daily Show), he was the opening act for David Spade and Dennis Miller. Spade TOTALLY sucked! His act was a complete let down after Jon's opening and Dennis Miller...well, do I even need to say any more? (He sucked too in comparison to Jon).

4. Fortunately, the media's been giving them precious material to work with
As for John Oliver, he's a foreigner in the U.S. on a work visa--if he goes on strike, he gets deported!

12. After a day of anger and/or riducule toward the corporate media
Edited on Thu Jan-10-08 08:58 AM by rocknation
it's become therapy for me to watch Stewart and Colbert because by expressing the same laughter and/or ridicule, they legitimize mine, which REALLY cheers me up. Of course, DU does that for me, too, which is why I was able to survive without them.

13. I loved it yesterday when he was talking about Giuliani and 9/11
Especially the part where he showed the clip of Clinton choking and then Giuliani saying he cries too- especially on 9/11.

He doesn't need any writers if he just shows clips of Republican presidential candidates- the comedy writes itself.

14. Yep, pretty good scabs.
I love how DU talks a big union game around here, but when the rubber meets the road, they are willing to toss the unions to the wolves, just so long as they have their precious TeeVee show back:puke:

19. So you're still willing to toss over the writers eh.
Sorry, but most of those other people you're so concerned about are doing OK. There is plenty of temp works if you're a grip, or wardrobe, or what have you. They actually have a chance to bring in some money, while the writers don't as they walk the picket line.

And while you are so seemingly concerned about those other people, have you actually asked them what they thought about this? From what I've seen and heard, they are very much in solidarity with the writers, unlike Stewart, Colbert, and apparently those who watch such shows. For they know that if the WGA gets broken, one more layer of protection is stripped from themselves as well.

So please, take your faux anger(which I suspect that you're displaying simply because of your own guilty conscience) and stow it. Rather, join with the union in solidarity and hit the studios where it hurts, in the pocket book. Don't watch those shows, don't watch their ads and force the studios back to the table. Otherwise pal, you're no better than a scab too.

All over a fucking TeeVee show. How fucking pathetic is that:eyes:

Maybe they don't need writers. And grocery stores with self-checkout machines don't need cashiers. These advancements will help to make American society much more efficient. We'll know that we've reached 100% efficiency when we're all obsolete. It will be a glorious day for America and we'll all be fucked.

17. Sure and maybe those other 50 to 100 people who work on each of those show don't need job either!
Have you ever sat and watched the credits at the end of The Daily Show and/or The Colbert Report?!?!

My guess is NO! Do that next time one or both of those shows come on, count all those 50-100 people who are NOT writers on those shows who do NOT have a Strike Fund to draw from and did NOT have a pay check for the last 8 WEEKS to pay their RENT in the Greater NEW YORK CITY and to BUY FOOD and to buy their kids Christmas gifts this year.

So how about you take you snarky, narrow minded comments and tell it to all those 50 to 100 OTHER people who are about to get evicted from their homes, because of the 5 or 6 writers on those shows who's BS WGA "union" is refusing to write up a workable deal with the A-hole Networks execs, that they should go another 2 to 3 months without any money coming in!

I'm NOT anti-Unions, but I've got some news for ya, the so-called "entertainment industry" "unions" are NOT really Unions like in the way that most people understand them. They are more like Exclusive Clubs that you have to either be invited to join or you've got to "know someone" to get into!

This is how it works with "entertainment industry" "unions," You have to be in the "union" to work on a "union" show or movie, but in order to get into the "union," you have to have worked on a "union" show, WHICH YOU CAN'T DO IF YOU'RE NOT IN THE UNION!!! How do I know? I'm IN the business! or at least I was until I got totally screwed one too many times working on non-union shows because I couldn't get any "union" work to get into the "UNION!!!"

GET IT!?!

So just spare me the "union busting" crap and tell it to the A-holes at the WGA to get this thing settled, NOW!
