Alabama Congressman Bud Cramer describes himself as a "Conservative Democrat" on his website.

Like Lieberman before he lost and went to Independent?

Just got a flier from him regarding immigration and it reads as if it were written by Lou Dobbs.

4. Cramer's a proud member...
Thanks for the link! I really didn't think much about it when I read that he considered himself a "blue dog Dem" and after reading your Wiki link, it makes more sense.

3. I don't think they are mutually exclusive...
I tend to be fiscally conservative in that I do not believe it is wise, to print money in excess of maximum projected national growth. I do believe in using available funding for effective needed social programs, and have no qualms about taking corporate welfare monies to do it. I am very liberal on social issues, but not generally with respectr ot issues du jour.

I cannot think that those stances are in conflict. caring about the social well being(economic) of future generations seems to me to be a rather worthy and admirable thing, and skimping on todays citizens in order to benefit business entities moving jobs off shore etc is not.

If I were a dues paying Dem( I am and have been a ticket splitting independent, I vote the issue and the qualifications.) would you throw such as I out?

7. Do not confuse a fiscal conservative with an economic conservative...
A Socialist could be a fiscal conservative, as long as they make sure that the books balance. That means nothing, and has little to do with actually political positions as to HOW that money is spent. An Economic conservative is someone who has faith in deregulation, free market ideologies, etc. its an actual political position on the economy..

Which is a subjective matter of personal values.

13. My Dad was a diehard Dem and conservative...
His attitude was to help all the poor folks, but make damn sure we had a big enough military to invade a small planet first. As conserv sounding as he got at times...the minute he got in the ballot box, he voted Dem. :)
