Who Is The Worst TV Talking Head *Not* On Fox News?
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 05:06 PM by ihavenobias
Actually, that's too easy. The answer is Glenn Beck.

Why don't we remove the obvious conservatives and take it from there.

Don't include Glenn Beck, Scarborough or Tucker Carlson. I'm sure I'm forgetting someone but at any rate, I want to focus on people who a conservative would say is liberal, etc.

In light of his interview with Elizabeth Edwards this weekend, I have to go with Chris Matthews. If you think I'm way off base, click the link and skip to the 6 minute mark to watch the last 2:25 of the interview with her. No matter how you feel about John Edwards, it's clear that Matthews is not only laughably biased against trial lawyers, but also an awkward guy who LOVES to focus on the most irrelevant issues of politics.

Everything in his mind is a political calculation. It's ALL about the horse-race, or how people smell (yes, he's talked about that many times, like when he imagines Fred Thompson smelling like a rugged man) or talk or smile or dress (he said Obama has a "stylish family"), etc. It's infuriating.

IMO, he leads the charge for largely irrelevant style over substance political coverage.

PS---There's a really good live chat that includes interactive, updating polls, going on right now at Brave New Films leading up to tonight's Live (*commercial and corporate free*) coverage of New Hampshire (see link for progressive guest list). Originally I thought it didn't start until 6pm so this is great news!

If you're interested in the chat (which you can join now) or live coverage later, click here: http://bravenewfilms.org/election

And if you like this new format, please spread the word to help support progressive media!

36. I REALLY don't like her but
Her show is basically a dressed up tabloid. I don't think she EVER talks about real news, rather, she talks about sensationalized bullshit (Anna Nicole Smith, missing pregnant women, etc.). I guess she gets a vote for worst, I've just never seen anyone take her seriously.

Every story with her is essentially emotional pornography.

7. Blitzer
Did anyone else hear Blitzer make some very recent comment regarding Edwards's hair? I heard something about it briefly this morning but haven't confirmed it.

As I understand it was a blatant bad joke/jab that was totally unnecessary, i.e. John Edwards poll numbers are brought up and Blitzer says "yes, and how about his hair" or something equally absurd and out of place.

But again, I haven't confirmed this and can't recall exactly what it was he was supposed to have said.

I could've included a poll.

Then again, I didn't want to lock in the choices. Did you watch the Hardball interview with Elizabeth yet? I hope Media Matters got a hold of it!

and his hero Pat Buchanan-two guys who don't have the courage of their convictions. Both KNOW in their heart of hearts but still just can't bring themselves to ever vote for what they know is right. They criticize Bush and his minions every night but when push (the lever) comes to shove they vote "R"

24. Someone already made that point and I agreed
Besides, it's WAY too easy. It's Keith Olbermann in first and second place is a DISTANT second.

I heard recently there is a 13 to 1 ratio of conservative to progressive hosts on cable (I believe it was cable and not tv in general but I could be wrong). Funny thing is, I have to wonder if Keith is the "1"!

He creeps me out. I'm not a Hill fan but her total blow-off of Tweety yesterday brought her up many notches in my estimation. She just totally brushed him off after making him whimper!! Loved it!

35. That raises a good point
Part of what makes him worse IMO is that he's considered by many (not by many progressives I guess but hey) to be a serious news guy.

It really sucks that they paired up Olbermann with Matthews (essentially killing my desire to watch their election coverage).

PS---Oh well, that's why there's (*commercial and corporate free*) coverage of New Hampshire (see link for progressive guest list) online: http://bravenewfilms.org/election

but he's a conservative so I'm not sure I can include him. Also, does he have his own show?

Don't get me wrong, I can't stand him either. Any time someone says the NY Times is The Paradigm Of Liberal Bias I bring up David Brooks and Tom Friedman (and now, neocon Kristol).
