"Open-minded" Matthews: McCain "deserve[s] the presidency"
http://mediamatters.org/items/200701230006

<snip>MATTHEWS: You think that question's a tough one for her? What have you done to deserve this job?

BARNICLE: I think it's a tough question for not just her, for perhaps the entire field. But the --

MATTHEWS: Not so much for McCain.

BARNICLE: Not for John McCain. OK, I'll give you that.

MATTHEWS: He has deserved the presidency. Whether he should be president or not, it's up to the voters. But he's certainly done a lot.

6. It's up to the people but it's the media who present them to us
And face it -- a lot of voters see candidates through the eyes CBS, FOX News, NBC, Larry King... Tweety is laying the groundwork here.

5. Flame away, but McCain HAS done a lot
He has sacrificied the honor of his family, his principles, his integrity, etc

Not every politician will do that, so McCain deserves some credit here.

8. Delicious: Matthews and Barnicle talking about what folks "deserve"
Sitting on their fat salaries, bloviating endlessly on the public airwaves, and neither one of them "deserves" his exalted position. Yet they have the nerve to talk about people who "deserve" the presidency, and put Maverick John McCain at the head of the list.

Delusional fruitcakes smearing the walls of their padded cells with their own shit.

12. He and Brokaw were in full whore mode last night
and Olbermann didn't really do much to correct them.

Both of them were dumping everything onto the Dems as if the Republicans were never in control.

14. I wonder what Matthews asking price is for cheerleading endorsements?
Other than his personal integrity. Seems like he's been on the McCain payroll for quite some time now. Seriously, I would not be shocked in the least to find a 'quid pro quo' in place between these 2 guys. Real high ethical journalistic standards you have going, Chris.

What an unbelievably arrogant assumption that any one person "deserves" the Presidency. This guy is an obvious Republican shrill. Yesterday it was questioning whether the country was ready for a woman or black person (read 'Democrat') today it's puff up, yet again, the old geezer and former straight talker, John McCain.

22. then he has flipped, because he was on Leno about 6 months ago
saying that he "hoped Guiliani" would be elected President. McCain may be his 2nd choice and a "straight-talking hero" that Tweety loves to love, but ultimately he is probably just ABD - Anybody But a Democrat. Unbiased journalism at its best. On opposite day at least.

me - then I do it all over again. Maybe someday I'll learn (but I doubt it - I'm too trusting).

I was free at last. He'll say anything if it irks somebody.
He wants to be a guy's guy, that's why he digs McCain, the
ex pilot/hero/POW. In Tweety's dreams ... He's as deep as a mirage.
His core is as solid as a marshmallow roasting over the latest ratings.

I don't understand. I don't know much about McCain. Has he done something to make anybody think he deserves the Presidency.

23. I saw that exchange and the impression I got was that they were talking about
political experience. Tweety used a bad choice of words when he said that McCain deserved the presidency. I believe what he meant was that McCain has enough experience that he has earned the right to run for president and be a legitimate contender.

26. Tweety paired with Olbermann was nauseating.
Tweety had to jump in after Webb's speech trying to push the repo meme that Webb isn't really a Democrat. He's REALLY a Republican. Yeah, and Tweety's REALLY a gorporate whore. Just kind of makes the point that the American people, left and right, have a lot more in common that the media ever wants them to catch on to.

Tweety deserves to earn minimum wage.

Gore has more experience than McCain. What makes McCain "deserve" the presidency? other than Tweets liking him.
