Dems need to focus on this Bible verse, if we have to run against "the Huckster"
"Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men.

Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you." (Matthew 6:1-6 RSV)

3. I agree with you, SoCalDem, that the Righties have tunnel vision on the scriptures, but...
unless we are discussing the bible I think it is a mistake to base the arguments against Huckabee on biblical interpretation at all.

Better to remind them of Article VI, section 3 of the Constitution, "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

And, of course, the First Amendment.

Better to keep arguments on a secular, Constitutional level than to get down to arguing about whose interpretation of scripture is correct.

We were intended to be a secular nation, not one which ascribed to a certain interpretation of any religious text.

4. If you wanted to really get to him, use this one
Whenever I hear of the religious right, I think of this one:

"But these people blaspheme all that they don't understand, and they are destroyed by the all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. Woe to them, for they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam's error and perished in Korah's rebellion."
-Jude 10,11
