3. To be fair, these aren't the "top" jobs--they're the fastest growing job markets
Obviously, earning $21K to be a home care aide sucks--but its a job in demand, with our aging population. I'm proud to say that wages for home health-care workers were voted a raise in the state legislature here recently.

A lot of these jobs on the list are low-paying and often "contract"--meaning no benefits. Yup, that's the largest portion of the new job market.

5. And if the health care crisis was addressed, a lot of the financial problems the economy/people have
would be lessened or eliminated.

Here is another source for salary scale info
I just picked software developer as an example:

You can pick other careers and compare.

16. And the way the BLS categorizes employment
doesn't accurately reflect jobs and careers the way most people think of them. I mean, do you see Administrative Assistant as a job category? No. There's no one industry under which to group it so it gets lost, whereas other distinct job types, like gaming technicians ("bookies"?), get their own category because that type of job can be identified with an industry.

11. well I can believe that mani/pedi techs are in the top 30 fastest growing
job fields since it seems a new nail shop opens about every 5 days around here.

I simply can't believe THAT many people are getting their nails done that often. And I have a pedicure about every 6 weeks myself

12. There seem to be only three salary ranges, which feels a little bogus
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 11:12 PM by rocknation
But what bothers me more is that NONE of these jobs exceed the 2006 U.S. median income of $48.2K. Only ten of them exceed an average of $40K! THIS is our strong economy?

15. Incredible..............
I guess with so many US jobs being out-sourced and sent over seas, this is all that remains.

Truly sad. And the salary ranges are freaking pathetic.
