My email to Beltway hack, Stu Rothenberg, who says an Edwards presidency would "rip nation apart"
Edited on Mon Dec-31-07 05:23 PM by brentspeak
Stu Rothenberg: http://rothenbergpoliticalreport.blogspot.com/

But let’s be very clear: Given the North Carolina Democrat’s rhetoric and agenda, an Edwards Presidency would likely rip the nation apart – even further apart than Bush has torn it.

On Capitol Hill, Edwards’s “us versus them” rhetoric and legislative agenda would almost certainly make an already bitter mood even worse. He would in the blink of an eye unify the GOP and open up divisions in his own party’s ranks. Congressional Republicans would circle the wagons in an effort to stop Edwards’s agenda.

Would Clinton or Obama fare better in the nation’s capital? It’s hard to tell, but the answer probably is “yes.”

Obama surely wouldn’t arouse the immediate resentment and opposition that Edwards would, giving the Illinois senator a far better chance of accomplishing important things during the first two years of his term.

Brentspeak, to Stu Rothenberg:

"The only "ripping apart" that would take place would be over the final remaining cocktail weenies at a Georgetown party hosted for the sake of you and your fellow Beltway pundit-class dweebs. I can picture you and Thomas Friedman or Cokie Roberts strangling each other to get at that last lobster tail, just before K-Street get-togethers close up shop for good.

Sounds like you're scared witless the wheels of the beltway-gravy-train might finally, at long last, come off. Myself and the many other millions of other Americans who are sick to dying over how this nation has been been had by both Wall Street cheap-labor billionaires and Beltway cocktail party-circuit media shills will be profoundly relieved.

Sincerely,

..."

12. Is it any wonder why "Dollman" Friedman is a neo-lib free trader scum?
He's ONE of them!!!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-sirota/billionaire-scion-tom-fri_b_26164.html

(snip)
I have always believed Friedman's perspective comes from the bubble he lives in - that is, I have always believed he feels totally at ease shilling for Big Money and attacking workers because from the comfortable confines of the Washington suburbs he lives in and the elite cocktail parties he attends, what Friedman says seems mainstream to him. But I never had any idea how dead on I was about the specific circumstances of Friedman's bubble - and how it potentially explains a lot more than I ever thought.

As the July edition of the Washingtonian Magazine notes, Friedman lives in "a palatial 11,400-square-foot house, now valued at $9.3 million, on a 7½-acre parcel just blocks from I-495 and Bethesda Country Club." He "married into one of the 100 richest families in the country" - the Bucksbaums, whose real-estate Empire is valued at $2.7 billion.

(snip)

Again, there's positively nothing wrong with people being rich in general, or Tom Friedman being a billionaire scion in specific. The problem is that so few of his readers know this, even as he aggressively uses his platform to justify policies that almost exclusively benefit his super-wealthy brethren - all under the guise of supposed objectivity.

13. Very good response. But I would have asked why the damage
that has already been done is being dismissed like it's not important, but somehow Edwards who has done nothing yet is being considered worse, and now an important consideration.

DON'T LOOK NOW YOU FUCKING MORON, STOCKS ARE ABOUT TO TUMBLE ALONG WITH EVERYTHING ELSE THANKS TO THE 'no regulation, no oversight' POLICIES OF THE REPUBLICANS.

This drooling moron things people should pay $197 a year for his simpleton and clearly biased viewpoint. What a laugh.

I'm guessing no. At least, not a substantive response that actually addresses your points. Unless it's some fatuous claptrap that denies there's any Beltway elite, or that if there is, he isn't a part of it.

18. Let's hope for more of the same.
Let the beltway snobs write this everyday. The more they point out John's 'agenda' and how much it will 'hurt', the better the real America will see who is on their side. I can see the campaign ads. John will highlight the discomfort of the corporate gentry at the thought of a President that will enforce trade, labor, environmental, and safety standards without worrying about preferred shareholder dividends.

Every such article will bring thousands of new supporters.

20. Oh yes! It would destroy the DLC's notion of "bipartisanship"...
Edited on Tue Jan-01-08 03:12 PM by calipendence
... which is defined as ways to satisfy one entity (the corporations who fund them), while making it sound like you also support the people. Yes THAT bipartisanship will be destroyed and most deservedly so! However, then we can replace that with TRUE bipartisanship, or having representatives of PEOPLE of different viewpoints hash out compromises. The way true good old bipartisanship of the past was done before!

The beltway K-Street crowd can take a hike! Go Edwards!

Just figured I'd reclaim a little populist rhetoric in the service
of putting the Right-Wing Media Elite and their Neoliberal Coastal
Upper-Class Appeaseniks in their place. Take that, Reagan!

No Appeasement!

Take back the Coasts from the fake liberal "cocktail weenies" who
gave this country to the Republican party.
