Nation's largest Anti-Immigration group declared to be a hate group
The country's leading anti-immigration organization — whose leaders have testified repeatedly before Congress and are frequently quoted in the media — has ties to known racists and a long track record of bigotry, according to a new report released today by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

The group, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR):

* is the creation of a man who operates a racist publishing company and has compared immigrants to "bacteria;"
* has employed members of white supremacist groups in key positions;
* has promoted racist conspiracy theories; and
* has accepted more than $1 million from the Pioneer Fund, a racist foundation devoted to eugenics and to proving a connection between race and IQ.

FAIR and its ties to white supremacy are examined in the latest issue of the SPLC's quarterly Intelligence Report.

The SPLC today added FAIR to its list of hate groups operating in the United States.

"FAIR's position on immigration is rooted more in its anti-Latino and anti-Catholic beliefs than in policy concerns," said Mark Potok, the director of the SPLC's project that monitors hate group activity. "Remarkably, it has still managed to infiltrate the mainstream and shape the immigration debate in this country."

2. Two things that struck me today
A client who is from Asia gave me a Christmas present; a friend from India sent me a Christmas card.

It was too late to go for lunch at one restaurant, because they were closing early for Christmas Eve, so I went to a Chinese restaurant. The immigrant waitress, Chinese, wished me a Merry Christmas.

Sometimes it is ironic how Christian behavior can come from non-Christians, and how considerate the immigrants can be of our holiday, though it is not theirs. Sort of gives the lie to those who claim they don't care and are making "war" on us.

4. As if anyone holds ownership of these holidays
Who's to say it's not their holiday too? There are a hell of a lot more Asian Christians than you might think. And even if they are not, what's strange about wishing people Merry Christmas? I also wish people happy Diwali, Eid, and other holidays regardless of anyone's religion. Asians love holidays. pfft. As if we need a reason to celebrate life. Life is wonderful and it's good to celebrate.

Christianity by country

Christianity went to Asia long before spreading to Europe (thanks to the Romans).

5. Well, I'm not saying they can't be Christians and of course they can be
I was figuring the odds are they aren't, and in the client's case, I know it isn't.

I thought it was nice of them, as I have little reason to remember all of the holidays to other religions (though I would if I lived in a country where it was the prevalent holiday). I was complimenting those who were thougtful of me, and you're trying to make me look mean when I was being positive. You go out of your way to be offended and deliberately misinterpret what I said. That's not much into the holiday spirit at all.

If I were in China, I would accept people taking one look at me and assuming that I wasn't a Buddhist. I would not go out of my way to take offense at that.

The "poor me" attitude only increases divisions, it doesn't help at all. Unlike your attitude, the people I mentioned were not doing that.

I didn't mean to come across as mean. For that I apologize.

7. The chair of the Republican party in Kansas is one of their attorneys
I think he might be on their board too. He also works with the minutemen and has been a keynote speaker at their local rallies.

And he is a frequent guest on Lou Dobbs. Funny thing, though, I haven't noticed Dobbs ever introducing him as head of the KS GOP.

8. And FAIR leaders gave birth to CIS....
which tries to sound more moderate. CIS is continuing the war on immigrants.

Planning the war on immigrants...making life here hard for them...

"Let’s be clear,” wrote Frank Sharry of the National Immigration Forum, “CIS was birthed by FAIR, the militant anti-immigration group. The CIS executive director moved from FAIR to CIS to head up the organization. Although now independent, the two organizations share the same basic agenda: an American version of what in Europe is called ‘zero immigration.’”

According to Sharry, CIS masquerades as an objective, “squeaky clean” think tank, but CIS is “simply churning out high-sounding, low-credibility grist for the high-pitch, low-road anti-immigration forces in the United States.” This assessment of CIS is widely shared among pro-immigrant groups, but CIS studies are not only frequently cited by the “low-road” nativist forces but also by major news media.
