Elizabeth Edwards is a poor judge of character.
That's what I'm hearing from all these folks who slam John day in and day out here. "Oh, we LIKE Elizabeth, but we think John's a phony."

Do you people realize how fucking STUPID that sounds? She loves and respects the man, and stands by his side, and really believes he will do right by this country, and yet her opinion--the opinion of a woman so many here respect--means nothing?

I truly cannot believe some of the stupid shit I read from otherwise intelligent people when it comes to this stuff.

Seriously, you can't make this shit up. It's right here, day in and day out, on this board. "He's a snake-oil salesman." Who is happily married to a woman with courage, strength, and vision of her own. But we'll disregard that part of it. She's obviously just taken in by his charm. Or something.

Give me a break.

1. Well, she's just an empty-headed woman when it comes to men, you know.

2. so in your opinion
if you like a person, you must, by necessity, think highly of their spouse?

3. Without evidence to the contrary
I'd damn well take it into consideration.

4. So
no, you don't think that if you like a person you must automatically think highly of their spouse. It's just something you'd take into account.

Many people here have seen their own evidence. That you don't find it convincing doesn't mean your argument is correct. It's quite possible to like a person and not like their spouse very much. My own experience tells me this is often the case, in fact.

5. Or maybe it's just jealousy.
I see a lot of that.

10. Well, I don't care for JE
and it has nothing to do with money or success. I applaud that.
Sometimes if you see a person in a certain way, you're unable to understand why others don't and ascribe the wrong reasons to why they disagree with you.

15. It's called being too cynical, at times...
Without hope, all of this is worthless. Every word typed here is nothing. Wasted energy. And you show no hope at all.

18. Time to correct you on that since you're so determined to repeat
something that is not true. I'm sure an apology from you will be directly forthcoming. Yeah, I really show no hope:

"Here you go Edwards supporters: A great story about Edwards' surge
with real info and analysis."

so sue me. I like the idea of a person of color as the President of this country. And though I don't always agree with Obama and I think he's flawed like all the rest of the field, I think he'd make an able president and that he'd do wonders for the perception of this country, the world over."

I actually post a lot of threads and posts that are anything but hopeless. I could provide you with more examples, but why bother? You've made up your mind.

9. People who make vaccuous attacks on character and not issues deserve to be ignored.
That's what I suggest you do. Look I'm new poster here, but its a foregone conclusion that the primaries are going to make the forums heated.

You need to make rules for yourself:

1. People who personally attack candidates get ignored.
2. People who persistently give disinformation about candidates (whether accidental or intentional) get ignored
3. People who do nothing but attack and flame other candidates rather than advocating for their own get ignored
4. Threads that are flame wars get hidden.

That's my plan to survive the next few months.

11. Welcome aboard!
Sounds like you already have a good plan for survival. I hate the bashing and personal attacks too, but I very rarely let myself get drawn into the fray. I need that energy for productive things.

16. Probably smart.
But every time I've ignored anyone, I've ended up regretting it for one reason or another.

People are just saying whatever they feel will hurt the other candidate(s). Posting the same thing a half-dozen times, using irrational Freeper-like arguments or any number of negative techniques are commonplace these days. Thankfully, it will be over soon.

14. Well, its true of many couples, including the Clintons,
that people like one better than the other. People seem to like Bill a lot more than Hillary. Bill, for all his flaws, is a very likeable man.

And in this case, Elizabeth is extremely likeable.

21. Actually I do see Edwards as Honest
Edited on Tue Dec-25-07 01:46 PM by booley
And i think that sometimes hurts him.

Like when he talks about gay marriage.

He's all for equal rights under the law and doesn't believe anyone should be discriminated against. and that he cannot use his religion to govern as President.

But he's also admitted he does not support gay marriage.

Yes that's contradictory. And it certainly did not make him any friends among gay people. But it's also typical of homo-hesitant people who are are still evolving. They know discrimination is wrong. But they are still hung up on that word marriage and what they think it means on a level they aren't even aware of.

And yes that's annoying but homo hesitant people do eventually come around. Indeed, if you listen to them explain why they don't support gay marriage, they often give you the clues you need to convince them to support gay rights.

When i saw Edwards on LOGO, he actually scored points with me because he didn't seem like he was just trying to score political points or say what he thought his audience wanted to hear but was honestly wrestling with two contradictory ideas in his head. even though i didn't like all of his answer, he showed that he had actually thought about this, he wasn't just parroting a line.

I am sure others will flame me in disagreement. but that's how I saw Edwards when he talked about this last with the HRC.
