My baby brother died of AIDS in 1992..... his SO is doing GREAT thanks to the
"cocktail". His new partner is also doing well
they both have a different "strand" of Aids (did you know there were different strands of the virus)??? (and one can give it to the other????).... but they are healthy otherwise...

The only reason I am posting this is because I was thinking about when his SO's church showed the Quilt...... they send panels from your area.... and let the families know they will be on display.......
POWERFUL is not a big enough word.....
phew........
also I think its taken a back page.....
its not gone
its not cured
ITS STILL HERE

Have you ever gotten to see the quilt??? parts of it??? made a panel???

I just wanted to say if you EVER have the opportunity to see this magnificent testimony to love

go..... no matter what.... go

please think about AIDS charities when you do your donations this holiday seasaon......

thanks

lost

1. World AIDS Day is December 1
I know - because it falls on my birthday.

Thanks for posting this - no need for recognition of the issue to be limited to only one day.

died of AIDS early in the epidemic

I've seen parts of the quilt and pictures of it

I've heard doctors talk of it as a chronic but treatable condition now

but it isn't cured

and there are many who are still discriminated against because of it

and I didn't even know when world AIDS day was:blush: so I am glad you posted this

:hi:

4. The first time I saw parts of the AIDS quilt
was in DC at the 2000 Millennium March. It finally became overwhelming when I saw a panel from someone who had the same, exact birthday as mine.

Thank you for this thread, lost. HIV/AIDS has become passe for many as far as fundraising goes, especially given our current political climate. This is unfortunate, since new infections disproportionately are African-American women.

8. Thank you Lost
It is easy to put large issues on the back burner when you arent directly affected. I'm sorry about your brother, but happy to see his SO is doing ok.

13. One of my cousins died in 1990.
Here is his quilt panel. His is the one on the bottom right (the blue and white checkerboard).

The last time the entire quilt was on tour, I saw it at the Metrodome. I also volunteered, and got to read names on the intercom. Very powerful.
