Fear halts anonymous greeting cards for troops
From CNN:

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (AP) -- Hundreds of thousands of holiday cards and letters thanking wounded American troops for their sacrifice and wishing them well never reach their destination. They are returned to sender or thrown away unopened.

Since the September 11 attacks and the anthrax scare, the Pentagon and the Postal Service have refused to deliver mail addressed simply to "Any Wounded Soldier" for fear terrorists or opponents of the war might send toxic substances or demoralizing messages.

"Ugh" sums that, the reasoning for it, and the fact that there's enough wounded soldiers to warrant "hundreds of thousands" of cards, all up nicely. ;P

1. We had an Iraq Navy vet at work who spearheaded a care package campaign.
He suggested we send flea collars (he said some liked to wear them on their ankles), soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hard candy, socks, batteries, and other such stuff.
Poor guy got out early due to stress and had to be transported to the ER a couple of times for dizzyness/racing heart.
I hope that some day * will realize how badly he screwed up.
