40. How can it not be a real word?
People use it all the time and its meaning is clear to those who hear it. Seems real enough to me.

Or does it just not have the approval of the Grammar Elite?

44. I take it you're not from Texas.
Hell, even my Canadian girlfriend now says y'all.

I don't even know what the "proper" substitute term is.

"Youse guys"?

"All you fu*kers"?

I believe "y'all" is one of the most all-inclusive words in my vocabulary (which consists of at least 100 words).

My understanding is that you should only capitalize "president"
when it is used as a title preceding someone's name.

So, "President Bush", but "the president".

My husband and I have always referred to him as Resident or Occupant since he was installed in office - because we figured he was such an idiot, the only correspondence Cheney would ever let reach his desk would be the stuff marked 'Resident' or 'Occupant'.

By now, he probably has enough WalMart flyers and Publishers' Clearing House "You May Have Already WON!!!" letters to fill the entire Hellhole Ranch in Crawford.

27. Capital idea!
Except that not one member of this administration deserves to be capitalized. And there are many Dems who also don't deserve my respect. I swore nearly 8 years ago that I would not capitalize "White House" until these assholes were out of the building.

All proper English aside (and I happen to be a union member of the grammar police), capitalization is only at the beginning of the sentence, when using a proper name when respect is valid, and that's about it! When the pukes are gone from sight, I'll happily capitalize properly again! :)

33. No. The word republican, when used in reference to the republican party,
or a member of the republican party, should never be capitalized unless it is used at the beginning of a sentence.

This rule of grammar began during the Reagan era, and is primarily employed by democracy loving individuals intending to show their intense lack of respect for fascists.

Just my fascist detesting reflexes taking over.

As a form of respect, or something like that. So is "god", supposedly. I don't believe in god, so there's really no point in hitting the "shift" key to avoid being smote. As long as Bush is president, "President" will remain lower case until someone worthy of the title holds the office once again. I would capitalize Bush, War Criminal, however, because he is worthy of that title.

or no respect. I'm not much for name-calling so I use this subtle display of disrespect. Were we to have a verbal conversation, I would relay my disrespect through tone of voice; lower-case names and titles is my text version of this particular tone of voice.
