I know, I know (don't we have more important things to talk about?)! BUT the use of AIDS victim just sets me on edge. WHY are patients with AIDS or HIV victims? Do you refer to cancer patients as cancer victims? How about MS victims or polio victims or whatever disease you can think of. It has been a long time since I've seen/heard the term AIDS victim and I was hoping to never see/hear it again.

The saddest part of this whole word game is that it is used just as freely within the GLBT community as it is the main stream of society. I'm very sad that I have to write this 27 years into this awful part of history.

2. Actually it wasn't ...

AIDS wasn't new at that point. AIDS was new to the Reagan administration and they were the ones with the mega-punitive attitude (as reported by C. Everett Coup). In 92 everybody knew that AIDS was not transmissible by casual human contact, only through internal bodily fluids. There was no need to bash AIDS as a "gay plaugue" at this point. Those who did were simply spreading their hatred based on their need for power and their misinterpretation of biblical scripture.

Coral Ridge Ministries was having private meetings a year or so ago and the focus was on massive "loving" reeducation camp project. Now it's not that we need to be rounded up because of HIV, it's cuz we're so saddddd (boo hoo hoo).
