Lugar Leaks Bush Plans to go across Iran Border & Blow up Munitions Depot
Edited on Sun Feb-18-07 10:51 AM by KoKo01
of Qud's Force on CBS with Bob Schieffer just now. He's on with Joe Biden and Lugar is being the total Repug saying a "Bi-Partisan Group" needs to meet with Bush and he doesn't agree with Murtha...yadda yadda and Schieffer brings up Iran and is this info about them supplying arms new or old. Lugar and Biden say it's old info...then drops bomb that he wouldn't approve of us following any Iranians across the border and bombing their Munitions Depot because that would be expanding the war.

Biden didn't have a chance to say anything about that and the segment ended.

If anyone has watched Lugar and seen how carefully he "parses his words" and refuses to say anything negative about Bush...you'd have to know that for whatever reason he wanted to get this out about us bombing munitions depot...because he's HEARD it from "those in the know." And, Biden didn't bring it up...it was Repug Lugar. And, Lugar will NOT go along with Bush on following across Iran Border and Blowing up anything!

The game is afoot.....

1. Koko, sometimes your posts drive me nuts :-) but this one interests me
I'd like to see the transcript.

BTW, I don't get the loathing of Lugar the way so many other GOP'ers seem to dredge up that sentiment in me.

3. Not 'invade" (like Iraq)--but surgical targets in Iran is the plan I think.

10. What if aliens were to arive and surgically strike some American targets,
would you not call that an invasion? There does not have to be troops on the ground for it to be an invasion and it would indeed create many more problems for the USA and the world than not invading would, IMO.

16. I agree. We aren't going to follow them on foot across the border.
It will just be the bombers or missiles from the ships.

8. Amazing that those NeoCons just keep rolling along...
Where DO they get their POWER? Chris Wallace had Kristol on today talking about this? I don't watch Fox but interesting to know that they've been reporting this...It's the first I've seen it on the non-Fox shows.

I wonder if he's planning to do this while Congress is in recess this week? At least Lugar is trying to do a little "pre-emptive" strike. I hope that other Repugs are with Lugar.

7. During the Faux round table this morning, Brit Hume was arguing with
Juan Williams and said that it be completely appropriate (I don't remember the specific language)for the US to bomb the factories in Iran where the weapons that are being used to kill our soldiers are being made.

I see a theme developing here.

It doesn't take much to sniff out the next action they are planning.

11. I've never watched Fox....but I guess they ARE the First Source for all things Neo-Con...
and...that definitely means Bush is going for broke. I've thought it odd that CNN/MSNBC have turned to the Infotainment in the last week... They sit silently by passively watch Bush and NeoCons and Fox do all the heavy lifting...:-(

on at that time for me.

Sometimes it is good to know what is the CW in the right wing echo chamber.

This is what the White House and Republicans marinate in.

He must be quite an actor.

13. Considering who has given us the "evidence"...
... we cannot accept one word as even resembling the truth.

If we can believe what's been said, we know that roughly 6 or 7% of the US military deaths have resulted from these "Iranian" explosives. I'd be willing to wager that at least that many have resulted from weapons manufactured in the US or its allies.

23. That's why it's surprising that he would Leak Bush/Cheney/PNAC Plans on Schieffer
at the very end of the panel. Lugar was putting me to sleep until he revealed that tidbit of info...and he had to know he was putting out the Repug Talking Points.

Some DU'ers who watch Fox News say it was already "OUT THERE" on Fox...before Lugar revealed it to the "rest of us" who Don't Watch Fox."

I guess it "pays to watch Fox News" rather than the other Cable shows...because THEY ARE CLUED IN???

Kind of Disgusting IMHO...:-(

Sen. BIDEN: What do you think--where do you think it's going, Senator Lugar?

Sen. LUGAR: Well, I don't think it's going anywhere. And my hope is that it
would not, but I would just say, to back to what Senator Biden has said, that
essentially, a good many people are very suspicious that it comes out with a
thought that then we might follow Iranian soldiers, it suggests, even across
the border. There might be a wipeout of the plant that makes these
situations.
In fact, the Shiite business between Iran and Iraq is very
complex. There's no doubt that Iranians have tried to help out Shiites on
there other side and sometimes we get in the--in the way and we're the targets
of the whole business. But I think the fear and the debate is that this war
will be extended to Iran.

SCHIEFFER: And you're not ready to invade at this moment.

Sen. LUGAR: No, no, I certainly am not. And I would hope very strongly that
the diplomatic course is followed, that Europeans help some more. But
clearly, we have got to go the diplomatic route.

SCHIEFFER: All right. Well, gentlemen, I want to thank both of you. We'll
be back in a moment with our roundtable discussion.

27. kick.........and here's snip from UN Security Council Report on Deadline Feb 21st..
UN SECURITY COUNCIL REPORT ..UPCOMING FEBRUARY EVENTS.

Expected Council Action

The Council on 23 December unanimously
adopted resolution 1737 calling on Iran to
suspend all proliferation-sensitive nuclear
activities, including all enrichment-related
and reprocessing activities and work on
heavy water-related projects. The resolution
also banned trade with Iran of all items, materials,
equipment, goods and technology that
could contribute to Iran’s proliferationsensitive
nuclear activities. The resolution
listed those specific items considered as
“proliferation-sensitive” using the guidelines
of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and
the listings of the Missile Technology Control
Regime (MTCR).

By February 21, 60 days after the resolution,
the Director General of the IAEA must report
to the Council on whether Iran has suspended
uranium-enrichment activities. The
Council threatened “further appropriate
measures” under Chapter VII, article 41, of
the UN Charter in event of non-compliance.
The sanctions committee held its first meeting
on 23 January. The resolution also
requested that all states report to the committee
on steps taken to implement the
measures within 60 days. The reports are
therefore due by 21 February.

The committee
is also expected to report to the Council
on the fulfilment of its mandate every 90
days; its first report is due on 21 March. At
press time, it had yet to adopt its guidelines.
Iran was critical of the resolution. However,
although Iran had previously threatened to
withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty
and terminate its IAEA membership, Iranian
officials only said that was still an option.
But there were reports on 22 January that
Iran denied entry of 38 IAEA inspectors and
subsequently expelled the leader of the
IAEA mission.

Pursuant to resolution 1737, the IAEA has
suspended some technical aid projects
in Iran.
EU foreign ministers on 22 January
announced a decision to ban trade with Iran
in all the goods on the NSG
