DNA test confirms identity of Baby Grace
DNA test confirms identity of Baby Grace

By MONICA RHOR
Associated Press Writer

HOUSTON (AP) -- A murdered 2-year-old girl, called "Baby Grace" by the police officials investigating her brutal death, has been officially identified as a missing Ohio girl.

On Friday, DNA tests confirmed the little girl's identity as that of Riley Ann Sawyers, who disappeared in June after her mother moved to Texas from Mentor, Ohio, to marry a man she met online.

Riley's mother, Kimberly Dawn Trenor, 19, and her husband, Royce Clyde Zeigler II, 24, have been arrested in the toddler's death.

Trenor told police she and Zeigler beat and tortured Riley to death July 24 in a disciplinary session that veered out of control. Trenor said they hid the girl's body in a shed for two months before dumping it in Galveston Bay.

7. Just ducky..
:grr:

One good thing is that she will NOT get a chance to kill this child.. I'm only hoping that a truly good family gets to raise this baby.. Somehow, I am fearing that a grandma will end up with it.. and jusding from the job they did with their own , I'm not so sure that's a great idea..

6. "disciplinary session"?????????
:grr: Tell me again how "spanking" is acceptable? :grr: I get really close to the "zero tolerance" line on inflicting ANY physical pain whatsoever for the alleged purpose of "discipline."

Incomprehensible. Abominable.

8. The "stepdad" insisting on "respect" from a child not his own
Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 06:25 PM by SoCalDem
is a very common thread in these cases.. and a needy woman standing by (or joining in) because she's too afraid of losing the guy..

Society is implicit in a way. Women who are NOT maternal, are too afraid of the criticism if the leave their child when they run off with another man, so they drag the children into these frivolous affairs and expose them to horrible dangers..all in the name of the sanctity of mother & child..

We should stop vilifying women who leave their kids.. they may be saving that child's life...

17. I saw this happen with my daughter
She and my granddaughter's dad were going to reunite so he started spending a lot of time around my grandbaby.
I started noticing the disciplinarian side sprout--in other words, he hadn't been there for her entire 4 years and he was going to MAKE her respect him.
She was putting her shoe on and off the bed. He jerked her up and made her stand in the corner.
She was sobbing because, honestly, what crime is there in putting a shoe on and off the bed?
Anyway, I went and "rescued" her and told him I would talk to him in a few minutes.
I have raised this child and I don't care how much "biology" he has over me, to me this is abuse.
If it bothers you that a child is putting their shoe off and on the bed, take the shoe away and go on without another word--that's my way of thinking.
Or, better yet, leave the room so you aren't watching.
Regardless, I informed him that I would not tolerate any form of abuse.
I saw it for what it was...a power play...to insert himself as a figure of authority.
I told him in no uncertain terms that respect is earned.
He is the one that was a no-show parent, don't take it out on the child.
Luckily, that relationship didn't last long and I haven't seen him since.

9. Very sad, that poor little girl
I hope that with the DNA proving for sure it's her, it gives at least a little relief to the father and grandmother.

And what that poor poor girl had to go through, all I can do is shake my head. This story gets worse every day.

15. I never had kids so maybe I'm not qualified to remark on this, however,
I don't understand why parents would try to discipline such a young child. My experiences with two year olds as hit and miss as they are is that a child that young simply doesn't understand fully what is expected of him/her and to punish him/her is really stupid. It seems to me that as a parent you should be teaching the child by letting him experience the world as his pace when they are that small.

To do anything harmful to a little child like that and call it discipline is plainly sadistic.

18. Good morning
Douglas :hi: Thanks for the link, what a heartbreaker

That poor baby! Reminds me of a similar story in Boulder, CO in the early-mid '80's. Mom and step-dad (boyfriend?) beat a 2 year-old boy to death, put a wooden cross in his little hands, stuffed him into a garbage bag, and dumped him in a ditch up Boulder Canyon. She was granted immunity for testifying against him, he served less than 1/2 of his sentence.

I had tried to avoid most of this story. There are no words to express my disgust and heartbreak for that baby.

You always think you have heard the "worst"....but then there is always the next one...........Those two are definitely qualified for the Harris County D.A.'s Office Express line to death row.
