Bush hid the facts

This is a new one for me. Apologies if it is old knowledge.

If you use windows, create a new text document and open it with Notepad. Type in "Bush hid the facts" (without the quotes). Save the file and re-open it.

I am sure there is a good explaination for the software's behavior, but there is no excuse for Bush's behavior.

Okay, done. So what's it supposed to do? :shrug:

2. When I opened mine up, it had little squares in place of the text.

I right clicked on the desktop, created a new text file, typed --->Bush hid the facts<---- saved it, and re-opened.

If it didn't work, maybe it is version specific. It does it every time for me.

Mine didn't do anything, remained exactly as I typed it. Maybe it is version specific. Mine's XP; what's yours?

me an email about it. We have identical laptops.

It must be typed without punctuation, etc. Even a period after it won't do it for me, and I found it has to be the first time the file is created/saved. I didn't do as much playing around as EvilAl, but it is intriguing.

Ah! I'll try again. I did it with a period first (editor's compulsion!), then edited the period out. That could be it.

It did it to me too. Just to be sure it wasn't some fluke of opening & saving a text file in that way, I did the same thing using God Bless America.

That was NOT changed to the little squares.

rectangles. When I tried to paste them it gave me ??????????. then I tried character map to find it and it gave me ٱٱ

With Kerry, you don't get weird behavior. (this statement seems to be true in other contexts also)

Then you can see the original text. But this still doesn't explain it.

I copied the text boxes and pasted them here, as the subject. They look like Japanese or Chinese characters?

On preview, they are numbered characters.

On Posting, ERROR: Posting error

40. Well, I run Win98SE on an 8-year-old Pentium II with 384meg and SCSI drives.

I'm looking at replacing it (finally) with a duocore, but squirreling away the $2K is difficult ... and I'm not eager to get swallowed by the "black hole" of gettng a Vista-based system up and running and transferring two decades of files (taxes!, etc.) and legacy software over and getting it all running.

I've had to replace my 19" CRT with a (Acer) flat panel and can't seem to find a graphics adapter that'll work on my system and support the necessary native resolution - so I'm having to look at a display that's disoptimal, to say the least.

I'm also dead-ended on getting USB devices working on this old system ... and salivate over up-to-date support for USB 2.0 devices on a hub. (This system is still tightly tied to the old 16-port tiered device archetecture.)

But I limp along and still have access to my spreadsheets (lots!), many years of taxes, etc.

(sigh) I'm getting lazy in my old age. I was "bleeding edge" for a long time, but I don't have that much blood left.
