Question: Why does the BBC (3&4 especially) does not find the "F" word as well as
other things commonly found in American cinema so objectionable as to delete or ban them as does American television?

1. Dunno. But bleeping them out is comparatively tasteful...

3. I guess. But it is disconcerting. OTOH, you rarely hear the word "bloody."
And compared to what? Luckily, HDNET is showing unexpurgated Torchwoods and other BBC shows via cable.

2. I noticed that a few of Carlin's Seven Words get through on BBC America...
...although others get bleeped. Go figure.

5. The original seven words were, shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, and tits.
The only one I have noticed so far is a dirivative of piss as in "pissed off."

and what he was learned to be.

aside: I like Carlin, I can forgivee certain things. I like his Anger. I just wonder why he thinks everything so tottally evil is somehow related to women?

9. Only two of the words are exclusive to women in his seven words...
The rest are indigenous to both sexes with two words aimed at men (MF & CS) in their affinity to insult.

11. But there are two aimed as men as well....
and these ARE only words themselves with no context added.

Words in a drama are used to define a character. The character might be someone who has no respect for women or men. They are adjectives of a coarse sort that I feel can and should be used when applicable in defining that character in the building of a story/film.

But that's just me and that means that the chances of my being wrong are way up there. :)

according to the status quo.
may I pm you?

15. Huh?
"He thinks everything so tottally evil is somehow related to women?" Where the hell did THAT come from?

Considering that the routine is called "The Seven Words You Can't Say on Television," I'm guessing he thinks everything so "tottally" evil is somehow related to TV executives.

16. I've heard "shit" too.
And I'm guessing that "tits" is allowed, as well.

7. There's a good system, called the 'watershed', for the domestic broadcasting
which is basically: before 9pm, language is censored - so that people can let young children watch without hearing the various 4 letter words that most people don't like young children hearing. After 9pm, the 'watershed', they can be a lot freer, because the youngest children will have gone to bed, and with a known time, parents can know they should think about what the older children should watch, if they're concerned. The continuity announcer will say something like "strong language" if there's a significant amount in a programme.

Possibly the lack of advertisers on the BBC means they aren't so worried about getting complaints; but the watershed rules apply to the commercial channels too. I suppose they would get pissed off if the BBC was able to show films, make drama etc. without censoring and they had to, so they don't allow advertisers to dictate about this either.

The end result of this was that while the USA sees the Superbowl almost live - on a (5 second?) delay so they can cut away from wardrobe malfunctions - I could watch it with a shorter delay - just the sub-second satellite delay.

8. Thank you!
That makes far too much sense for America.

14. I was just discussing that with a friend of mine. I've been watching a great deal of UK tv that is
streamed on the Internet and am amazed at what they "allow". Or should I say, I am amazed at what we disallow? I also know a few people that DL some programs too and have watched them myself. For example..the original version of The Office. I was floored at some of the jokes that were told, and gag props shown. And this was on BBC.

There is a show that is really fun and shown here on The Travel Channel, Most Haunted. I have seen some of the Most Haunted Lives from the UK, and they're always saying fuck and shit. The people on the show do apologize for their language but I am sure not worried about fines.
