A little bird told me - possible Dem pickup on Lott's seat!
I was talking at lunch with someone who knows MS Attorney General Mike Moore, and learned that Moore in fact may be interested in running for Lott's soon-to-be-vacated seat (and has always wanted the Senate). Moore is probably the one Democrat who could win here (and my Repub friend agrees). He is the only Dem to win a statewide race in this year's elections.

Possible Dem Senator from Mississippi???? Who'da thunk it?

2. wikipedia already has a page up for the special election.

On November 26, 2007, longtime Mississippi Sen. Trent Lott announced his intention to resign from his Senate seat by the end of 2007 in order to pursue "something else" in the private sector or to teach.

4. Mabus?
I'm not big on Nostradamus or anything, but still, Ray Mabus? That's a little too creepy.

5. Also AG Jim Hood
On the Democratic side, the field of prospective candidates is pretty thin. The GOP won all but a single statewide office in this month's elections, leaving incumbent state Attorney General Jim Hood as the sole winning Democrat. As such, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee will probably look to Hood himself, or his predecessor Mike Moore, to try and make the race. If neither Hood nor Moore run, the Democrats' already uphill fight would become even harder.

7. What about the Democratic Congressman from Mobile/ Biloxi area?
Although he's a conservative a**hole in many respects, they were saying
Lott was implored to remain in office to prevent a "probable Dem pick up"
of one Senate seat in 2006.

6. I've heard two things that if Lott goes by end of this year that there should be a special election
in 90 days, but if he waits until early next year it would be in the November election. Is this true? The GOP wants him to wait (from what I hear) because they feel it would be easier to win in November than in a special election.
