Once again, the religious right shows themselves for the hypocritical BASTARDS they are
Now that Obama has admitted to trying drugs as a teenager, you see the far-right fundies jumping all over this, declaring Obama "unfit" to serve as President. To them, this represents the de-moralizing of America, "proof" that morals don't count anymore. I've already heard talk-show hosts and bloggers denouncing Obama for his admission, and even Mitt Romney has come out against Obama for doing so.

WHAT THE FUCK. Aren't Christians supposed to be all about forgiveness and redemption? Don't we continually hear stories about former drug-addicts that God helped turn their lives around? Don't they preach that it's possible to leave one's old life behind, and mature and become a "good" person?

Aren't these the same people who were oh-so-willing to overlook Bush's drug use, which was much more recent that Obama's?

What a bunch of god-damned hypocritical lying bastards.

4. I don't remember him admitting to anything other than, "When I was young
and irresponsible, I was young and irresponsible." He was forced to admit getting a DUI, but only because his arrest record was discovered.

7. And remember, when you're a Republican, "young" can apply up to the age of 40.
Or beyond, when necessary. Just ask Henry Hyde.

8. Yeah, Hyde had a long-term "youthful indiscretion" in his 40's.

How the GOP got away with crowning themselves the "family values" party is beyond me. x(

11. And as gubner, he tried to hide that. Gonzo kept him from answering a jury
summons by getting him exempted so he wouldn't have to swear out what his convictions were.

5. Reminds me of some here at DU that seem to think if a person commits a crime they can be killed
They have no problem with a man shooting two people in the back with a shotgum because he "believed" they were attempting to rob his neighbor's house. I read post that said "if you commit a crime expect to be shot". I guess that would go for a pot smoker as well. Hell in Texas pot smokers get more time than burglers.

6. I saw this on a NY Times blog about the religious right:
Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 09:27 AM by Hawaii Hiker
The writer said:

"The American Christian Right is picking up for Christianity where the Spanish Inquisition left off".

Truer words were never spoken....

9. he actually admitted it long ago...

In his book Dreams from my Father he talks about doing pot and blow into his 20's, if I remember correctly. I wondered when the subject would come up. At least he's honest about it, unlike Bush.

10. You people know I think Obama is not ready to be president BUT
what in the hell is wrong with him experimenting with drugs in his younger years. He is not brain dead like bush, he did not have to go AWOL because he couldn't pass a pee test for drugs like bush. He did not get caught multiple times DWI and lucky he did not kill people, while he was driving drunk. He didn't have all his records destroyed that even hinted he was involved big time in drugs.

I find this another of those two way streets. Thet elected (???????) a president whose brain was absolutely fried on drugs and now they are bashing a man who had the guts to admit he did experiment a few times.

Of course we know it was wrong. And a lot of people who now know the effects would probably never even have done that, back then. But come on, the press is showing again they will do anything the republican whip crackers tell them.

13. To be fair to the hypocritical Republicans....
It's not like Obama admitted to being a closet homosexual who had a call-boy.

Obviously that would be forgivable, since the devil would have tested him and made him do it.
