Bush to father of fallen soldier:"“If you truly believe the Scriptures, you will see your son again"

<snip>

God is a frequent topic. Robert Lehmiller, also of Salt Lake City, says the president brought religion into the conversation, telling him, “If you truly believe the Scriptures, you will see your son again.”

1. Hey Bush, his father can still be angry that his son has been taken away from him
It may be hard to believe, but Bush is getting even further detached from reality.

Yes it is. And when this bereaved father commits suicide, you'll know who is to blame. A sociopath who destroys whatever he touches.

And what if this father DOESN'T believe in the Christian Scriptures? Wouldn't what * said kill you inside all over again?

The man is a monster.

4. Odd that George should refer to Scripture
Although Shakespeare reminds us that the Devil can cite Scripture to serve his own purpose, I wonder what passages George is familiar with, and which ones he's less than conversant on. I daresay that Amos 5:18-24 isn't one he's very familiar with. Luke 6 probably doesn't get much of a read from Mr. Bush, either.

11. And if there is a God, and if there is a
judgment, and if there is an after life, I hope that young soldier and all of the other dead and wounded, and all of the Iraqi people who have been so harmed and all of the dispossessed in our own country who have been so harmed, get to stand in judgment on Bush.

I don't even know if I should post this. My heart goes to that person's family, but every time I hear Bush's sanctimonious filth - and even giving him the benefit of his own belief in it - I can't even say what I feel.

Matt. 7:1-5--" Do not judge lest you be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, `Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of you"

20. The entire Book of Matthew has been redacted. Michael Weiner (aka Savage)'s publisher,
Thomas J. Nelson (the world's most prolific Bible publisher), has declared it subversive and redacted it entirely, choosing to replace it with Brother Newt's "Contract On America" and Reagan's Berlin Wall speech.

Still waiting for the lightning bolt, lost faith in god nearly completely the minute the Supreme court Installed that Devil..

As an ex-fundy I can assure you that these people think the Earth is worthy of total destruction and "rebirth." Yet when you ask them why they stick around when a better world awaits them just the other side of death their only rejoinder is they need to work to bring others along (read: convert others).

We have the delusional leading the naive to the destruction of us all.

Read "With God On Our Side" if you really want to scare yourself. The Religious Right is gaining way too much power in our government and military.

i may be ultra wicked by saying what i just said, but i can't stand these parents who would rather take the easy way out and stand by this son of a bitch who killed their children. just because it makes it easier for them to cope? i don't understand how you place your loyalty at the foot of a mass murderer above the coffin of your child.

52. of course i realize grief can make people do strange things.
and i have experienced it first hand (over friends and family members--which is perhaps why i feel so strongly on this--if grief makes people do strange things then this is how it has changed me)

i believe a lot of these people felt that way BEFORE their kids were killed. and rather than being a wake-up call (too late) they allow themselves to be lulled into this delusional mindset.

who will be the advocate of these dead children? who will demand justice on their behalf? who will demand answers? who will be the one to cry out that this didn't have to happen--that it never should have happened--and that it must never happen to another child again? (me? me and you? a select group? it is the voice of their parent that would be heard more clearly, more passionately, more strongly. and it is tragic that, so often, those voices remain as silent as their children.)

54. I have little doubt they were * lovers before their child died
My point is, you shouldn't expect a grieving parent to think clearly and have an epiphany during their weakest moments.

"who will be the advocate of these dead children? who will demand justice on their behalf? who will demand answers? who will be the one to cry out that this didn't have to happen--that it never should have happened--and that it must never happen to another child again? (me? me and you? a select group? it is the voice of their parent that would be heard more clearly, more passionately, more strongly. and it is tragic that, so often, those voices remain as silent as their children.) "

Yes, it is tragic and the parents voice should be heard, but I won't hold it against them if their grief has made that impossible. I get your point, but I don't think the parents silence is the key issue, nor are they the ones we need to go after.

So basically, I understand your points; they're not unreasonable and you're not a "wicked" person. But dwelling on the inaction of a grieving parent is IMO unnecessary and inappropriate.

Hell, as long as we're talking useless platitudes, let's just go right to "hasta la vista, baby!" or how about "c'est la vie!" Honestly, Bush is spewing the most disgusting and inane platitudes - I really mean it, do you think these parents/spouses/children are comforted by this shit??!! Even if you were a believer in heaven, it doesn't assuage the pain of continuing on earth without your child. I cannot even imagine the level of delusion one has to have to make that statement OR to find comfort in it. Those kinds of statements do nothing to address the reality of what the surviving relatives' life on earth is now going to be like, and even verge on the dangerous sorta like the 40 virgins thing and shaheeds.

Bush murdered that man's son. He has no right to say anything to that father other than "I'm sorry" and hang his head in shame while he is lead away for war crimes.

66. And if bush truly believed, he would know what Jesus thinks about
warmongering bastards who commit illegal invasions that kill other people's kids.

70. If "heaven" is soo great, why doesn't HE off himself?
What a bunch of nonsense talk.

I'll see my son again when I'm dead? Oh really?

That'll be a pretty neat trick.

Says who? Some screed in a book written by who knows who?

Amazing. It's the year 2007 and we still talk about "the Bible" as if it were fact.

72. A serious religious thought here. It never ceases to amaze me that
those who do terrible things somehow equate it with, "God's Will".

If bush had any idea of what his proposed "religion" was about, he'd know that killing people, except in self defense, is really not an option. Taking this a step further, if he really does stand before God on judgment day, how does he figure that killing thousands in God's name is somehow going to be "excused"?

I don't think he realizes the ramifications of his actions from a religious point of view...if there is a judgment as described in the NT, he's already on his way to hell. I get the distinct impression that God might be a tad ticked off at how he's being "used".

As for this recent absurdity from bush, if he had told me that, I would have risked prison and punched him in the nose, I could always use some Biblical reference in court...something about not suffering fools lightly or such.

I am no theologian, but one need not be to realize that the moral standards of bush are pretty damn low.

74. here
Bush to dead soldier's mom: How do you know his life would have been good?
Dolores tried to give Bush a sense of what type of person Erik had been. She described her son as a "comedian" whose favorite saying was, "Life is good." The president replied, "How do you know his life would have been good?"

75. What a jerk.
Assuming that a perfect stranger shares his religion, or ought to. There's way too much of that going around.

Wishful thinking, I know. But, I'd love to see this sort of slapdown.
