Analysis: Right Wing is splintering
The splintering of prominent Christian conservatives over the Republican presidential contenders reflects a schism — between the dogma of God, guns and gays and the desire to beat Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Months of disagreement within this important GOP voting bloc culminated this week in a flurry of endorsements:

Televangelist Pat Robertson is backing Rudy Giuliani. Conservative Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas is supporting fellow Sen. John McCain of Arizona. Moral Majority co-founder Paul Weyrich is going for Mitt Romney.

All the candidates are flawed in the eyes of the Christian right, which is why some evangelical leaders are holding out and might favor a third-party candidate.

1. Also. libertarian conservatives from the
religious conservatives and empire conservatives. The more the splintering the better. Now if only our elected dems could recognize this and stop being cowered into corners.

2. This is my chance
I'll run as a God-and-Guns American.
When asked my opinion on any issue I'll tell the person asking the question that "I consult with my Father in Heaven before making any serious decisions. Like, whether to wear white after Labor Day."
Then I'll tell people God told me to shoot them...(That's the guns part)

4. But they'll all coalesce around the eventual 'Lican nominee . . .

Whoever it ends up being (much like many/most Dems).

But the rank and file of church ladies and tight collar deacons, not so much. The god-guns-gays brigade is *not* going into 2008 with any enthusiasm, and millions of them will stay home on election day. Dems will be motivated. This will affect not only house and senate races but local races. If we're not too stupid (or screwed by black box voting), we can shift the balance toward progressive forces in a way that will last for several election cycles.

And then we can begin easing out quislings like Feinstein and Schumer.

6. Right. Money talks.
The right are royalists who will always toady to power. If they seem splintered now, it's only because they haven't chosen a particular rich old white man to be Daddy.
