The greatest political miscalculation in a generation
perhaps that is what we saw today.

The Republicans just gave the dems the necessary political cover, perhaps even with their conservative, triangulating, base, to go ahead and hold the hearings.

Now the question is... will our leadership realize the gift the machinations of the GOP have given them?

As they say... stay tuned...

And put pressure on your reps, and on the Judiciary.

2. They've put our reps in a corner so many times
I can hear them even now - "Well, the Dems voted for it" about this or that issue in the past.

Well, now the Republicans are in that spot. So why not go ahead and hold hearings? They paved the way!

4. They've both just tied themselves into a square knot.
Point, the electorate.

I wonder what they're going to tell John Conyers to help him through the onslaught. Nothing they can say or do will be enough.

Keep moving, people!

7. I wonder what he really wants to do in his heart?
Does he agree with Pelosi or does he want to hold hearings. Our constant pressure on him could give him the ammunition he needs if it's what he wants.

9. Before the elections he was talking a good game
I suspect somebody got to him (Pelosi perhaps)

There are multiple agendas at play here

10. He has to face his conscience - and his legacy
He was there during the Nixon hearings and now history has come around the corner to meet him, so to speak. The irony and the weight of the Constitution can't be lost on him.

I have hope and a dialing finger.

5. That political miscalculation was by the republicans you mean
...because they think that somehow the voters will view this resolution as a blunder by democrats if they get behind it and if the democratic leadership squelches the resolution in committee then the GOP can come back and say they gave every opportunity for impeachment to proceed, but because the Democrats showed no back bone to support it, there was just nothing there?

Kucinich has had experience in speaking truth to power and I just believe that truth may win here.

6. Yeah by the Republicans
their goal was to get the debate on the floor

Intead they got the resolution sent to the Judiciary by the majority of the house

They just gave the dems cover

12. I really hope you're right.
There are so many possible explanations for today's
über-confusing clusterfuckery, I just have -NO- idea
who thinks they're plotting what. Not even a GUESS.

But I like your thought. It would be nice if you're right.
