It's all over save for the screaming.

In a vote of 11 - 8 the Senate Judiciary Committee affirmed Bush's third pick for Attorney General, advancing Michael Mukasey to the full Senate for a final vote and assured confirmation. Thanks Diane, thanks Chuckie. Way to represent the American people and stand up for America's image abroad and at home.

A recent CNN poll showed that 70% of Americans feel waterboarding is a form of torture, proving that the general public is clear on brutal treatment of detainees even if the future head of the Justice Department is not. The vast majority also do not support the Bush Crime Family's claimed authority to peep on any citizen they see fit without any legal justification or permission from the Federal Courts. Mukasey was deliberately vague on his opinion of Executive Authority to order such electronic surveillance. Who knows what additional Constitutional abuses he'll support?

The real scary part is over, there weren't any obvious tumors or anything. If it is a parathyroid issue, he'll probably have surgery to remove it. If it turns out that it's idiopathic (they don't know what's causing it), we'll have to keep an eye on him and have his blood checked regularly because hypercalcemia can cause kidney problems.

I just concluded one of my last "ladies who lunch" sessions before starting the new job on Thursday. It was kind of strange picking up my friend, who was my original supervisor 12 years ago, outside our old office. We had a really nice meal and a great conversation.

Then I spent the next couple of hours running around 5 auto parts stores looking for stuff for our 40,000-mile tuneup. (Mr. c likes to work on our VW Bug himself).

REPUBLICAN Sen. Charles Grassley of IOWA Asks Ministries To Turn Over Financial Records Within One Month
by Laura Strickler of the CBS News Investigative Unit.

CBS News has learned Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is investigating six prominent televangelist ministries for possible financial misconduct.

Letters were sent Monday to the ministries demanding that financial statements and records be turned over to the committee by December 6th.

According to Grassley's office, the Iowa Republican is trying to determine whether or not these ministries are improperly using their tax-exempt status as churches to shield lavish lifestyles.

A spokesperson for Joyce Meyer Ministries provided CBS News with an IRS letter to the ministry dated October 10, 2007, that stated: "We determined that you continue to qualify as an organization exempt from Federal income tax." Monday, CBS News recieved statements of response from two of the ministries under investigation. They are as follows:

“Bishop Long has received the request for information from the US Senate, he plans to fully comply. New Birth Ministries has several safeguards put in place to ensure all transactions are in compliance with laws applicable to churches.” - New Birth Ministries

...while Paula White Ministries claims "innocence" while they figure out what to do:

“We take our financial responsibilities to our partners very seriously and to the best of our knowledge we comply with all tax laws." - Paula White - Paula White Ministries

I joined late; I've been busy working on Dennis K's campaign, actually; my business partner and friend is his volunteer coordinator (out here in California at least).

Things have gone well today!

Fuzzies are doing well; the Doc put Snowey on antibiotics because he has had a little loose stool with a bit of blood in it. Everything checked out - I think he just has an infection. Now, he's paranoid every time he sees us - thinks he's going to get medicine shot down his throat. I was scared he swallowed something - thank Spirit he didn't!
