There's an old joke in Hollywood
Q: What did the Polish actress do when she hit town?

A: Fucked a screenwriter.

Anyone who thinks that WGA members are overpaid or privileged has no clue how the studios treat the average working writer.

WGA members stand in solidarity with other union members whenever needed.

The right thing for any person with a conscience to do is to stand with the WGA.

2. I know maybe three people who are union members.
No member of my entire family has ever been a union member as far as I know.

But I am behing WGA all the way.

I have known some screenwriters in the past and they get fucked every time out.

5. studio suits epicly undervalue writers. They really think if they just get the right stars
together and the right marketing campaign they don't need much of a script.

Stars get butts in the seats the first weekend, but the other weeks are based on word of mouth because it's a good story.

6. A little gem from S.J. Perelman.

"I always felt that the statement attributed to Irving Thalberg, the patron saint at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, beautifully summed up the situation: "The writer is a necessary evil." As a sometime employee of his, I consider that a misquotation. I suspect he said "weevil."

7. You got that right
The old movie "The Bad and the Beautiful" depicted the Hollywood screenwriter as a scholarly college type who has to be "coaxed" to write for the movies.

It wasn't true then and it's not true now.

It's a meatgrinder of a profession. As long as your scripts make money at the box office, you're a "success". One failure and they don't return your calls.

10. I was a union member for 30 years - I stand with WGA and all
union members. Without unions the little guy just gets kicked around. Go, WGA.
