3. Our winding interstate highway system has become our noose.
We built interstates for cars instead of mass transit rail for bullet trains to carry people. One train carrying many people is more fuel efficient than many people driving many cars.

5. Trolleys in the ocean
Not only that, but LA, San Francisco and many other cities literally scrapped their electric trolley systems. Literally dumping the trolleys in the ocean, so they could go buy brand new gasoline buses.

4. Not to be a troublemaker but...
I too firmly believe -- no, know -- that the oil companies have us by the balls. But what does this graph look like when adjusted for inflation? That would be a more accurate picture.

6. I heard a bit earlier...
that the main blame on the oil prices can be attributed to Wall Street...

Too many people betting on higher oil prices. Or in other words, the haves betting against the have "nots".
