Sign this petition: Democratic Donor Strike against the DSCC and DCCC

http://www.democrats.com/donor-strike-2007

To: Senator Chuck Schumer, Chair, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC)
Rep. Chris Van Hollen, Chair, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC)

I write to inform you that I am joining the Democratic Donor Strike against the DSCC and DCCC.

While I continue to support the Democratic Party and will contribute to Democratic committees
and candidates who are fighting for progressive causes, I will not support the
DSCC or DCCC until the Democratic-controlled Congress accomplishes these four goals:

1. Restrict any new Iraq funds to a safe withdrawal of U.S. troops - the "Peace Pledge"
adopted by 90 House Members

2. Prohibit any use of funds to plan or execute a pre-emptive attack on Iran, and repeal the
post-9/11 Authorization of Use of Military Force that Bush and Cheney believe authorizes
them to attack Iran or any other country they please, as well as to wiretap all our calls
and emails without warrants

3. Fully restore the Constitution by strictly outlawing warrantless wiretapping and torture,
closing Guantanamo, and restoring habeas corpus

4. Complete the investigation of White House crimes by using "inherent contempt" to
compel testimony by current and former White House officials

I understand that it takes a majority of votes to accomplish these goals, but I consider it the
responsibility of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, as the Leaders of our Party, to deliver
those votes.

If you want my help, I will be delighted to lobby my Senators and Representative to support
whatever legislation you introduce to accomplish these goals, and to encourage all my
friends and relatives to join me in this lobbying. All you have to do is lead the way.

Thank you for your attention to my urgent concerns about the crisis we face as a Nation.

5. Oh how intelligent of you.
Democrats are running to take over the Senate and House and you want to choke off the funding. Good move. It's like the kid who wants his own way and if he doesn't get will take the ball home. Maybe you should get out and support people who will change the direction of this country. That is a positive way not being a bully. If you don't do it my way there is the highway. Sounds ike a bushie to me.

7. So you are saying we should give money to candidates who support FISA,
torture, the war and not impeaching the president?

Sorry but I work hard for my money and would rather not spend it supporting candidates who vote against my best interests.

18. Donating to candidates
I agree with you. I will not support anyone who voted for this war and those that continue to fund this war.
I will contribute and support only those who appose this war and those who would hold this administration accountable for their criminal activities.:kick:

9. Of course we should support individual people who will change the direction of this country.
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 01:32 PM by ClassWarrior
What the petition says is that we will not support a Party machine that doles out money to the likes of Schumer, Feinstein, and Lieberman - people who clearly AREN'T changing the direction of this country.

But you better believe that I'm going to continue to support Dems who ARE - like my Senator, Russ Feingold.

And by the way, the Democrats already took over the Senate and House in 2006.

11. After seeing how the DCCC spent its money in 2006
and hearing how they hold it over the heads of candidates they gave money to, I would never give money to this organization under any circumstances. That does not mean I would not support some of the same candidates they gave money to or even hold fundraisers for them.

I don't trust them.

21. I can support individual candidates while not supporting my beloved party
that refuses to reign in their worst offenders.

And that's precisely what I do. After Kyl/Lieberman passed and two of our own caved on Mukasey, the party can get their dough from the suckers. I'll vote Dem, but contribute to quality candidates on my own. No dough for the party anymore.

The DNC is too goddamned stupid to read the blogs such as this one to see how the base wants it done.

Fuck them.

29. Not the DNC. the DLC.
The DNC does NOT pick and choose candidates, it
provides for the 50 state strategy. I still
support the DNC.

My INDIVIDUAL support goes to candidates like
Feingold and Pete Stark, anyone bold enough to
ACTUALLY stand against the monsters abusing our
freedoms.

The DCCC and the DSCC can kiss my *ss.

65. DSCC DCCC DLC
The DSCC, DCCC, and the DLC can go fuck themselves. We worked too hard to give them a majority in both Houses and their puppets have betrayed us. NO MORE!!! Pelosi, Feinstein, Schumer, Hoyer, Emanual and all the rest of the right-wing Demo puppets need to be waterboarded as they don't seem to know how horrific it is and maybe they will wake up to the fact that America should never torture and they will quit supporting torture and the illegal and unprovoked war in Iraq. Whether they know it or not they have become war criminals by their continual funding of the war. There is no statue of limitations for their crimes.

71. hey, guess what? they are getting far more from their predatory capitalist
string-pullers than We The People can give.

I don't see Pelosi et al., the whores of the corporate interests, who will do anything for them, including overlooking mass murder, blatant lies to the public, drowning/starving of American citizens, usurpation of habeas corpus, use of torture, etc. etc. ad nauseum "changing the direction of this country."

In fact, giving to the DCCC and DSCC is the antithesis of "change." That is a vote for the status quo.

You are free to give till it hurts to the enablers of * and his junta but I consider it a serious waste of my very hard-earned money. Apparently you love the way things are and have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

I also do the same thing. If enough people cost them postage for sending these requests back without money, that will do that much more to send a message to them, whether or not they read what you say on it or not.

I might add that they should:
1) Put legislation on the table that ensures that any election machine reform bill REQUIRE that there be paper ballots (and NOT just paper trails) and be for the 2008 election and/or ban DRE's for 2008!
2) Stop avoiding getting people like Sibel Edmonds to testify to congress as a part of part 4 of the points mentioned above.
3) I might also say that one needs to vocally say that "impeachment is ON the table", if item 4 results show a need for it!
4) Put in our election platform statements mandates to legislate putting in place public campaign financing that will be pursued at the start of the new congress in 2009.

But minimally I will demand what's in this petition as well.

17. If you Work for a Living,
DO NOT send your money to the DSCC or the DCCC.
Your money WILL be used to torpedo the campaigns of local grassroots candidates in the Primaries, and install DLC Democrats who will vote AGAINST your economic interests.

If you Work for a Living, donating to the DSCC or DCCC is like the Chickens sending money to Colonel Sanders.

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

26. It might help to remember that the "party"
is the voters -- not the high profile figures in the club of the elected. When they call themselves the "leadership" they are technically referring to leading Congressional Democrats and other party operatives, not us.

We have to remember that we are the deciders unless we give away our power without a struggle.
Political parties aren't really parties. They are wrestling matches. Welcome to the ring. :)

Senator Schumer seems to be a practical, pragmatic and reasonable individual. I don't know how else we can get his attention than by such a measure. And it might be that if this measure gets enough support, he will see his way clear to rethinking his strategy.

I signed this letter, in my heart I doubt Schumer will give any thought about it! He and those groups who have banded together to form these groups have worked VERY hard to establish them and I feel they won't relinquish what power they have achieved! I DON'T trust Schumer nor Rahm Emmanuel!!

Signing letters, petitions, letters or outright demonstrations don't seem to phase them anymore! Makes me feel like a gnat to be swatted away and my anger continues to grow day by day!

74. I am so glad to see this.
Every time we get a call from the dems, we tell them we are sending money to Move.On or to the ACLU or some group who represents our interests and then we do. Locals who are progressive - great. And I'll vote dem when push comes to shove.

But the idea of a donor strike is fantastic. Incidentally, everytime they call, I tell them why and it seems a lot of us are doing it already.

80. Done... But I Already Wrote Them A Couple Of Months Ago...
I also added that I have serious reservations about donating ANY money to the Party in general, even though I do respect and defend Howard Dean! I think Dean has been treated horribly by these groups and they have tried their best to be rid of him!

I'm sick of how they have "pandered" and "sucked up" to corporations and lobbyists because they have forgotten WHY they have been elected! OUR voice should mean something, but it seems not to!

82. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID, or very clever Republican at work here.
While this is a laudable effort, it is misguided by adding "inherent contempt" and by using a form of blackmail. This is the sort of thing I would expect from a Republican think tank dedicated to fomenting Democratic party divisiveness.

I more carefully reasoned effort would act to reward those who are adhering to the goals of the concerned.

My support for Democrats.com just fell a great deal.

95. Dione. Sent with a personal nasty gram attached.
Here was the note I added:

Senator Schumer and Von Hollen,

If not understanding that water boarding is torture (an obvious lie) and supporting the principle that the President is above the law, are not issues worth refusing to confirm a candidate for Attorney General, what principles do you stand on?

The democratic leadership (including YOU) STILL don't understand that you run the show in the legislative branch. There is NO reason to bow your heads and give into the administration at every single turn. Handing the President everything he demands is not compromise, it is cowardice. The American people reward people who will fight for clearly articulated principles. What could be clearer than "no man, not even the president, is above the law?" You have forced me to refuse any donations to congressional democrats from now on. Rest assured I will continue to donate to individual candidates who demonstrate the willingness to put the interests of the American people and the preservation of the constitutional rule of law before their own political expedience. I will not however give another dime (through the general congressional funds) to cowards. Until recently I didn't think you, Senator Schumer, counted in that camp. I see now I was mistaken.
