Mom Acquitted In 'Sex-Piercing' Of Girl - damn, what is wrong some people?
Mom Acquitted In 'Sex-Piercing' Of Girl
Woman Faced Up To 30 Years In Prison

NAPLES, Fla. -- A woman who had her 13-year-old daughter's genitalia pierced was acquitted of aggravated child abuse Thursday.

The 39-year-old Naples woman wanted to curb her teen's sex life and the piercing was intended to make intercourse uncomfortable. She also had her daughter's head shaved to make her unattractive to boys.

The five-man, one-woman jury deliberated for about three hours before deciding the woman's actions didn't involve punishment, malicious intent or cause permanent damage or disfigurement.

Judges, on the other hand, had previously rejected two proposed plea agreements as too lenient.

2. Mom had a better lawyer, and there were no 'rebellious teens' on the jury, perhaps?
"Maybe it was not the best decision in the world," foreman Colin Kelly said afterward. "But the intent was to try to stop a girl who was completely out of control. Are you going to put every parent in jail for making a bad decision?"

The woman said she was troubled by her daughter's promiscuity and rebellious nature.

Prosecutors characterized the mother's subsequent actions as mutilation and retaliatory because the girl's sexual partners allegedly included the mother's boyfriend.

Defense attorneys argued that the girl agreed to the piercing to help rebuild her mother's trust and no disfigurement resulted from it.

Child welfare officials were called after the girl became infected from the piercing.

7. 13-year-old girls don't normally become "promiscuous" unless they've
already been sexually abused.

In this case, it appears to have been the classic abuser, Mom's boyfriend.

It's sick how so many women are so codependent with unworthy men that they'll even allow their own daughters to be abused and then blame the girls.

10. Hard to say without knowing the details. I was just trying to answer the
question posed in the OP (what's WRONG with people?) with my subj. line!

Maybe the jury is stupid, maybe the prosecution was lazy? I dunno.

9. that must be it.
Sir Python had a theory on that issue, too, if I recall.

but the piercer's BOYFRIEND had sex with the 13 yr old? They picked the wrong person for the piercing.

There are so many other effective ways to "punish" your child.
