As hopefully all DU'ers are aware, one does not have to be an AK-47 toting jihadist to find oneself on the no fly list. Naomi Wolf has
documented that even professors who have lectured about the constitutional abuses of the bushistas have found themselves targeted. This is an especially pernicious abuse of the right of Americans who pose no threat of any kind to others to travel freely. Added to the latest jaw-dropper, the "
Advance Passenger Information System (APIS)" program, where travellers boarding
any flight to or through the US must have prior consent of the government, it means we very much live in a "your papers please" state. (
Note -- I do not know if the 'APIS' program has gained final approval or not at this point, but I think it would be foolish to believe that it will not.)
I saw the tail end of a scrolling news banner last night that said Hillary would roll back some of the executive powers that the cabal has seized (not in so many words). Hopefully this will include a good hard look at the watch list, which is now all about political repression, not safety and security.
Would it be too 'politically risky' to ask Democratic candidates to pledge to purge the watch list? This isn't about embracing the terraists, after all.
edit --
Maybe I should add that by "purge", I don't mean completely eliminate the list; there are, after all, still some AK-toting jihadists.
